DIY Mugen Spoiler instructions.
I know this is in the wrong Forum, but it wouldnt let me post a new thread in the DIY one. Moderator, please move if possible.
I created this for another member, & thought it could help out more in the future. Here Goes... Step 1. Lay everything out. if you are like me, you rec'd everything you see here... Lower Spoiler & Parts ![]() Upper Spoiler ![]() Step 2. The Spacer Set (bag with silver brackets at right) is NOT needed for install. Try to return if possible. Upper Spoiler comes attached with 4 of the 8 black Hex Screws (used to adjust) shown in middle. You will only need 2 of these to use to attach the Upper spoiler to Trunk Deck. Step 3. Open Trunk Deck & remove (2) nuts holding stock spoiler on at each end of Trunk Deck. (Keep these nuts! They are re-used to attach Upper Spoiler). ![]() Step 4. Completely remove carpet insulator (if its 2007 model) Keep all plastic pins in a baggie to re-install later. Step 5. Once carpet is removed, carefully remove the (2) nuts you can see holding the stock spoiler on. Unclip the wiring harness used for the 3rd brakelight. ![]() Step 6. The Scariest One!! Carefully remove the stock spoiler by evenly pulling up. The white pins eventually will POP! Once Spoiler is off, use needlenose pliers to remove the Female Plug Adapters left in Trunk Deck. (Place in Baggie to use for later) Carefully remove the (2) screws for the 3rd brakelight from Stock Spoiler. (Place in Baggie to use for later with Mugen Lower Deck Spoiler.) Step 7. Clean top surface of Deck Lid thoroughly. NOTE: All holes will be used, with NO additional ones needed. Step 8. Carefully install Side Brackets to Trunk Deck. For this step, I Re-used the White Plastic Pins that held down the Stock Spoiler to create "Pivot Pins". I sanded the female ends top surface flat. Then I carefully "thinned" the round flat horizontal portion of the Male End.(the part that rests on top of the female Pin (same diameter) This creates a "Pivot pin" and plugs the hole. NOTE: You have to properly sand these down as thin as possible so you the side brackets sit flush on the Trunk Deck. Place the female "Pivot Pin" portion in these holes in Rear deck. Place Male "Pivot Pin" portion into holes in Female portions already in Deck Lid. I would suggest not pulling off all 3M tape on Side Brackets so you can dry fit the Upper Spoiler to insure proper placement. The "Hollow" hole each of the Side Brackets goes around the "Pivot Pin" you inserted in the holes shown below. Step 9. Once proper placement of the Side Brackets is made, Carefully install Upper Wing. Use the nuts you removed from the ends of the stock spoiler to attach Upper Wing screws to the front hole of each Side Bracket. The rear hole uses (1) Black Hex Screw on each side to secure. Step 10. Install 3rd brakelight into Lower deck Spoiler using screws from stock Spoiler. Step 11. Thread 3rd brakelight wire through hole in Rear Decklid. Carefully align screw posts from Lower spoiler into holes in Rear Decklid. Once aligned, push down along front edge of Lower spoiler to "POP" the plastic pins through holes and into place. Reuse the (2) nuts you removed from Stock Spoiler Screw Posts to secure. Step 12. Reattach 3rd brakelight wiring harness and carpet insulator pad & you are DONE!!! Please let me know if you have anymore questions. I'll be happy to help out anyway I can. Nate |
