Removal of iVTEC decal on Si

I have an 07 Si Sedan and decided tonight I'd remove the iVTEC decals. Pretty easy process. For those of you who have tried and removed the Civic emblem off the truck lid, basically did the same thing... minus the dental floss. Tried searching the site for this but didn't find it so I thought I'd post if there are other people out there looking to do the same. If it already exists, I apologize. FYI, my Si is about 4 months old.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures so I'll try to explain as best I can. Pretty easy though, don't be afraid to try to do it.

1. First, I cleaned the area around the decal. Then, grabbed my wifes hair dryer. It has different heat and speed settings. If you have one like this, I recommend it, but not necessary.

2. Heat up the decal. I put the hair dryer on high heat, high speed and hit the decal for about 30-45 seconds.

3. Take the heat off, if possible, switch the dryer to medium heat. With my finger nail, I slowly worked one of the corners until I was able to pull. Once I could grab a little piece, turned the dryer back on and apply heat... sparingly. As you pull, apply the heat for about a second at a time as you pull. More than likely, the decal will rip into several pieces and you'll have to start again. I did. But with patience, it will come off.

4. After the decal is off, there will be left over residue. Apply goo gone to the area. Then with a rag, apply more goo gone to the rag and start rubbing it off. It takes some time so don't get frustrated. As you rub it will begin to "ball" up. Eventually all of it will be off. I then added more goo gone to the rag and wiped the area again to make sure there was no more residue left.

5. Spray the area clean. I do this to make sure all the goo gone comes off.

6. Wax the area.

To do both sides took me about 30 minutes (including wax dry time). Fairly easy process, wish I had done it sooner. Can not see any "outline" of the decal. Very happy with how it turned out. Sorry no pictures but hope my write up is self explanatory.

Basically the same thing I did, right down to the goo gone. My fingers felt like they were going to peel off too.:SHOCKED:

Can't see a hint of them on my NHBP coupe. Although they weren't on there more than a couple of weeks.

good DIY! I'm thinking about reselling my car in a couple of years... can decide if this diy will hurt my resale value or not...

i removed the decal also, as for the leftover glue, residue or whatever i just used some wax and gentley "massaged" it off. peice of cake

My GGM Si Sedan looks good but the decal is definitely to me a weeeee bit on the cheezy side. If it's that easy, I've gotta do it. I could live with it, if this car was infact some kind of super torque'd out stump-pulling 0-60 < 5 seconds sports car... however.

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea afterwards to do a little clay-bar in case some residue hangs onto the paint, then mild final polish, glaze, then wax maybe.

buy the decals from grafixpressions and when it comes time to resell, put it back on. simple.

you guys makes it sound so hard using the hair dryer. I took mine off using a fingernail and slowly pulling it away from the car. then a little goo gone and some elbow grease to remove the residue...gold. mine took about 20 minutes and has NO scraps or residue left over

FINALLY! I got a chance to spend the time and pull the decals. One word: EASY!


Trick I found...

As you get a little corner started, and as you go... If you apply hair-dryer heat to it, it makes it brittle, which makes it break on you. Trick is to heat up the next section rather than directly on what you just pulled, as you go. And go slow and be patient.. delicately working the decal off in as few pieces is I think quicker than having to restart corners after it breaks.

Results: CLEEEEEEEAN! Very clean look... A little goo-gone, a little alcohol and then some wax over the area, and she turned out gorgeous. We use the cloth baby diapers for rags of all kinds... works great for cleaning off the adhesive.. gentle pressure and let the goo-gone work in and do it's job.

I say if you're thinking about it with a new Si... don't wait.

My dealer didn't want to touch it.. Probably too much time involved and they didn't trust the guys not to scratch it up.... Not a prob. If it's gonna get scratched, I'd rather be the numb-nut to do it myself.. Then there's no question who's incompetence to blame. hehe

But having done it, I can say it's SUPER easy..
It's a solid 1 1/2 to 2 beer job, tops... temperature, humidity and thirst-level dependent of course.
