I could put it anywhere I want, really. The middle works well. I would argue that putting it in the middle would distribute weight evenly, but you could also argue that passenger weight isn't evenly distributed, so it'd be a moot discussion.

Don't use too much velcro because you may end up with a fluffy trunk liner. Just a little bit at each corner will go a long way.

That is awsome, I do want to smack myself for not thinking about some velcro. I have all of my cleaning supplys in a canvas container and that would work out great.

I just wanted to remind you all that a little bit of Velcro will do the trick. You can use less than what I showed in the original write-up. If you use too much, you'll end up pulling some of the carpet fuzz up if you move your box around often. If you use too little, there may not be enough adhesive to adhere the Velcro to the box.

I've used one of these for my car for a year or 2. Didn't put velcro down, but I didn't have a problem with it moving around. Nice job.

I think they have a good idea with the Smart car...

The have a flexible, square rod with velcro on it. You put your stuff in the trunk and then just bend the bar as needed and stick it to the floor around your cargo. Walla! No more sliding around!

This is such an excellent idea! I used shelf liner from Walmart. It works fantastically! And I take corners hard!

I just set my groceries on that spare strip and enjoy the drive home.
