First, check out this picture. It looks like you'll need part #14. Unfortunately, part #14 isn't available. Just so you know I'm not lying, check out this site.

So, on pure speculation, I'd say that if you could order part #14, then you'd be on your way. I'd guess that it would cost roughly $35.

Another thing that might be cheaper is to remove the assembly, take a small drill bit and drill out the small indention. Wire up a cheap LED you can find virtually anywhere on eBay, and you'll be set.
or you can get the overhead light from the CSX (with or without the sunroof).:)

lazy version, if someone can come up with this for the shaved keyhole look...PSEUDO.

IDEA: Some kind of metal magnetic cover that is paint-matched that can be inserted into hole and flush with rest of handle. Just an idea.

Also, without access to keyhole how do you deactivate factory alarm when it is accidentally set off by driver. Scenario: (happens to me at least once a month) Open door with transmitter, open door, before closing door press door lock on door (activates alarm), close door, turn on ignition= ALARM!!!

Only way to deactivate alram is to insert key into door handle key hole and turn (instinctive reaction, only one I found to work). Tried pressing on panic button on key fob, doesn't work. Any other way to deactivate alarm?

Hmm. Never had that happen. Have you checked the manual? It will probably tell you how to deactivate the alarm.

Well Alex, what if you did this mod and the battery on your key alarm dies and you didn't follow CameronJr's brilliant idea of keeping an extra battery in the trunk? This was the point of the latest discussion.

I'm blown away with both your mods. In the 13 yrs I owned my '93 civic, I never once used the valet key so yeah, don't even think twice about it. The anti-theft and clean look of the keyless door handle are more important.

The mirror mod is even better. Too bad you're not closer...I'd make it worth your time to do those same mods to my white coupe. Or make you an offer you can't refuse, like don corleone.

I'm in California--the SF bay area. Just realized the hybrids and civic sedans have the same type of mirror, so the mod won't work on the coupe. Is that correct?

What about making my LX trunk pop using a key? Is this as simple as buying an EX-style key with my code, or is some mod required? (don't mean to hijack your thread but I couldn't find an answer elsewhere)

Not a problem. Hijack away. The mirror mod won't work on the coupe, you're right. I'm sure there will be an aftermarket solution before the year is up. To get a general idea of what it would look like, you can search eBay for signal mirrors on any older model Civic.
I'm not sure about the LX trunk deal. There's a thread on here that's fairly old that talks about it. I'm getting ready for work right now, so I don't have time to search, but it's there. I think they decided that it won't work. Either that, or it was just more expensive than getting an EX in the first place. Search around and see if you can find it.

Thanks twotone. It's a really easy mod, and VERY clean as well. Don't forget to put the battery in your trunk!

Another great DIY, I had to do this to my Titan. Some thugs in memphis (yeah of all places ROFLMAO) tried to break in to steal my 6 year old crappy radar detector that I forgot to pull of the windshield and in trying they messed up my door tumbler...

Well instead of all the hassle with insurance and what not, I had the dent popped by PDR, they didnt scratch the paint, and ordered the cover from the passenger door handle. Similar to the Civic's setup, I too had to modify the inside but it snapped on and voila...

But I dont have a trunk to climb through if the truck battery dies

However, I dont think I'll be owning it much longer :) and I doubt the dealership will notice...

I haven't tried it. Several people have said they are different. I honestly don't know. You may want to go to your local dealer and just do a side-by-side compare.

If you have the Si you can just put the batteries in a balloon or condom and swallow it every Tuesday instead of keeping it in the trunk...
