DIY – ebay’s “JDM style” front grill for civic coupe

DIY – ebay’s “JDM style” front grill for civic coupe

I’ve decided to post this, because several members have been asking me in regards to the install. Installation is very easy. It took me about an hour(cutting, lining up the grill w/ the bumper, and drilling).

Tools and safety equipment:
Electric drill
Drill bit
Safety goggles
Filtered breathing mask
Philips screw driver
Coarse sandpaper
Hand saw
OEM screws that came with the OEM grill
Pen or pencil
Sharpie (the skinny kind)

This is what the after-market grill looks like before it was painted:

1. Remove front bumper – refer to the DIY on front bumper removal (courtesy of 06blaksi)
http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/showt...1711#post91711

2. Remove front grill with a philips screw driver (there are about 8-10 screws that securely holds the OEM grill onto the bumper).

3. Place the after-market grill on the bumper; now work from the outside of the bumper; use a pen or pencil and gently mark down the area that needs to be cut off from the bumper.

4. Remove the after-market grill from the bumper and use a saw to cut out the plastic pieces along the pencil marks from step 3 (behind where the OEM grill use to sit).

5. Smooth out the edges (where it’s been cut) w/ sand paper. (This is how it looks like after you remove the OEM grill from the bumper and after cutting the plastic pieces behind where the OEM grill use to sit)

6. Place the after-market grill on the bumper; now work from the inside of the bumper; use a sharpie to mark the holes where you will be drilling through (holes on the grill have to line up with the holes on bumper).

7. I recommend you to put on a filtered breathing mask before drilling the after-market grill, because the grill is made from fiber glass, you wouldn’t want to breath in that stuff.

8. After drilling is done, use the OEM screws that came with the OEM grill and secure the grill on the bumper. Notice that you will only use about 5-6 screws out of the 8-10 that came with the OEM grill.

9. This step is optional. I used 2 black zip ties to tighten the bottom corners of the grill for extra security.

The finish product:

-THE END-

P.S. I'm currently at my office. I’ll try to take some pictures of the grill from inside of the bumper when I get a chance this weekend.

Man, this is awesome, but how do you install this without cutting and drilling anything from the bumper? There's no way for this to me a bolt-on mod?

You are right. This is not a direct bolt on mod. It does require some modifications to the bumper. You are required to cut out the red outlined area in the picture below in order to make the grill fit the bumper.

Thanks for the rep, jocasti.
