It's just dark enough to look black from far, and light enough to reflect the daylight well enough to look 'safe'. I'm happy with the tint job, looks like a nice smoke.

I used Testor smoke paint, one can was enough to do two coats on both lights, and I have a lot left over. Two coats clear went on, may sand down later and apply a few more in a couple days. All in all looks like what I had planned.

Total Cost:

Testor tint (bought two cans just in case, only needed one) $7cdn each.
Clear Coat (one can) - $5cdn
Tape (one roll) - $2.50cdn
3 Kitchen trash bags - (500 for $2)
News Papers / Flyer inserts - Free

Total Cost : $14 - $15

Time : 3hrs in total (Masking, two coats tint, to coats Clear)

Effect - Priceless

Note: Between Tint coverage, I left 10mins. Between Clear coat, I left an Hour

I did a test on a blazer light I had, and did some chip tests, wash tests, holds up, and with the clear it is a bit tougher.

You can remove it easily, just use a hard sharp edge, and 'chisel a piece, once you start it, it flakes off like dried skin. (takes a bit to start it to do that too)

I like smoked tails, some peopple think it's vulgar, stock is good too. It's personal preference and taste, I think a tint on thos ewould look nice. Not a dark tint, just a darkening tint. Again, it's own personal taste. That pic is in a shadow, it looks like it's already tinted *grins*

You go as dark as you want. I just did two coats of tint, I've seen some on here that look way darker. I also used Testor paint, not Tamiya (testor was $2 cheaper here than Tamiya, and Tamiya wasn't in stock, I prefer Tamiya)

Clear coat, at leaast two, let dry for 5days before you apply a third coat. (why, shrugs, just to let it dry properly I think)

the last picture doesnt make sense.. why take the front quarter shot when the job was done in the rear?
take a rear angle shot so u can showcase the tints!

You know you could have just removed the lights and avoided any possibility of overspray and all the time it took to tape it all off. Right? Or did you just want it that way...**shrugs**

nice job

nice job

It took 10mins to tape, if I take things apart, I always have extra pieces left over. (plus I have big hands, and have no idea how to remove the lights)

I like tape, some members like doors, I like tape...

Thanks, I did it ... Myyyyyy Wayyyyy... *grins*

I thought I had that pic, but the cameras memory card was full and it wasn't there, will post that tomorrow once I take another one, thanks for noticing though.

The tint comes off easily with some coaxing. Flakes off like cheap paint, or those $1 sunglasses.

You can rub it as much as you want, it won't come off. You have to score it and chip it to make it start to flake off and then you can remove it in flakey chunks.

The tint that was on the plastic bags came off like potatoe flakes, big flakey chunks and pieces, the clear coated stuff came off in strips of flakes, should have taken pics of that too.

Lamin-x would work too, but I couldn't justify spending over $70cdn on that when I did it for under $20. If you damage the Lamin-x, you have to replace the piece, this was, just remove it and re-do it.

Again, it's all personal preference, and taste.

if removing, wouldnt you risk damaging the smooth finish on the taillights though?

No, no damage at all. I didn't use any sandpaper (just cleaned the surface thuroughly), or adhesion promoter. Just spray on, let dry, that's why it will flake off if 'cracked'

I'm thinking about the headlights, but it's kinda illegal here, trying to find out how illegal... what is illegal, what is legal, I've seen police cars with darker tint than I have on my tail on their headlights.

Would be nice though, give it a darker look, not too dark, but slightly
