Talking Tired of that Sunroof creak or rubbing sound over bumps?

Here is my how to on solving the problem.
Here is what you will find on the seal when you open sun roof.

Note: This is what causes the problem it makes the noise when going over bumps. It also rubbs on the roof and in time will sand paint off your roof.
Step one:
Get a clean rag or towel, tilt sunroof up.
Step two:
Spray alcohol based window cleaner on the clean rag.
Step three:
Clean sunroof seal by rubbing rag around seal.

Note: This is what it should look like after you clean it.
Step four:
Clean roof where seal makes contact so there is no sand, wax, cosmic dust, etc. on roof.

Step five:
Slide sunroof back now so you can clean front part of seal and front of roof that makes contact with roof.
Step six:
While wearing a latex glove apply Sil Glide or any other kind of silicon in a tube that is for weather stripping or rubber seals to sunroof seal.

Note:You can get this at any automotive store this one is carried by NAPPA.
Step seven:
Slide sunroof back and apply the silicone to front of seal.

Note: This is what it looks like after it is applied becareful not to get it on glass it is a pain to clean off.
Note: While slid back you can get the sides that you can't get while sun roof is tilted up.
Step eight:
Wipe off excess silicone so you don't attract dirt and dust.
Presto! No more creak sounds while going over bumps or pulling into driveways. This also acts as lubricant for seal so motor doesn't have to work as hard to open roof.
Plus it acts as a good winterizer for the sunroof for those of you who don't open it in the winter time! -30 degrees F
Hope you enjoy this post and it helps you guys out.

Any ideas on how to apply the seal for door windows? Mine feels like it's loose in place and shakes when I'm driving with it down.

Great write up BTW.

Thanx! I finally got it to work right plus i was taking VGA picture instead of 5 mega pixels and then resizing them i think that was distorting them. Gonna do it this way for now on.

Please don't quote the pictures again. Look how much you have to scroll with just the first two quotes.

Anyways, this is great information. Very informative.

moved it into the diy area. Not really an exterior "style" mod, but it's the best location for it I think.
