What MrEmo said. . .

I've just seen that a couple of times (not recently) where people think "look at my lack of plate!" is clever. That's middle school humor.

Just did this on my sedan and it worked well.

But instead of cutting up the frame, when i flipped the mount upside down i noticed it would fit perfectly in the grill. But the holes where offset slightly.

So i thought about using some nuts, washers and long screws.

So i looked around and eventually found some Crown Bolt wall mounts.

They worked perfectly. I think if you put a little Loctite on there it wont go any where.

I have an '07 coupe and I just did the flip. No dremel tool, but a Swiss Army Knife worked fine (just gotta be patient). Very helpful DIY and looks a lot better than the OG way.

I noticed the same thing, the frame when flipped fits perfectly in the grill if you drop it one notch lower. But the problem is the screw holes (on the grill and the frame) now won't align; the frame is a little lower.

I still haven't come up with a way to overcome that problem, do you have a picture of how you used that part from Homedepot?

I dont have any pictures, but i can describe it.

I just hooked the crown bolts onto the back of the grill and used long screws.
No cutting, no modifying. I used the factory holes in the license plate frame. If the heads on the screws arnt big enough, just throw some small washers on there.

You can probably also use washers instead of crown bolts, but they would be a pain to get on there.

I see... thanks. I will attempt this tonight or tomorrow, and will take pictures as I'm doing it.

I did this awhile ago too. To get a better fit (and to get rid of the gap), I also knotched out the section that overlaps the bumper as well as took down the bottom (formally top) edge that rests on the lower lip. I used a rounded file (rasp). here's a pic of what it looks like:
