Trunk pop DIY For Non US EX & SI
Ok Folks here it is.
Whats needed. Trunk pop Kit $30 ![]() Standard 5 pin automotive relay $5 ![]() Step 1 Remove footrest 2 screws (kind of) & the panel that has the fuse diagram on it. It's held on with just clips. Step 2 Disconnect all the connectors from the front of the fuse box & the blue an yellow ones from the bottom (both female and male ends). Remove the screw that holds the fuse box in & remove it. Step 3 Now that fuse box is removed you will able to get at the 2 connectors you need, The connectors are N & M on the top of the fuse box and the wires you need to cut are yellow one on each (see the pic below). Cut both wires but make sure you have lots of wire to make your connections. You may have to cut back the black wire cover abit. This view is from the top od the fuse box. ![]() Step 4 Connect the 2 yellow comming from the wire harness to the yellow wire comming out of connector N (it should be only 2 wires for the sedan but I could be wrong). This will make all the door unlock with one push on the key fob. Step 5 Now pull out your relay. (This step is needed because if you just connect the yellow wire to the + end of the trunk pop, when you push the door unlock switch inside the car the trunk will open.) I spent the good part of this weekend tring to figure this out and this it the only solution I came up with. Make the following connections 1- connect the wire comming from connector m to pin 30. 2- connect pin 86 to a fuse that comes on whe the key is turned to II (all I did was wrap a 22g wire around the acc. fuse and push the fuse back in a little tough but possible). 3- connect 87a to the + wire going to the trunk solinoid. 4- connect 85 to ground (I used the screw that hold in the fuse box) Having the relay lets you use the interior door switches to unlock the doors as long as the ignition is at the II position. As a plus if the is in the off position you can pop the trunk with a push of the unlock on the door switch. ![]() Here is a few more pics of how and where I installed the solenoid. I'm not going to give instructions on this because its pretty straight foward, but if anybody need any help just get back to me.Notice that I put a rubber cover arounf the solenod cable this way there's no rattel from the wire (since we have enough of those). It looks kind of getto right now and I plan to hid the wire form the solenoid, but for now it works and that all I care about. ![]() ![]() ![]() I hope this helps. This is just what I was looking for! (Until someone figures out how to retrofit the CSX trunk opener to the Canadian Civic)...
2 questions: - where did you attach the relay? - how did you get the wire for the solenoid (trunk pop+) from the relay to the trunk lid? I'm assuming the relay is somewhere near the fuse box. |

I attached the relay to the screw that hold in the fuse box. As for the wire I just put it under the door sill and then alond side the rear seat (I was able to get in under the panel up the side and under the seat to the trunk). Once in the trunk I just wraped it arounf the wire harnes. Sorry but its kind of hard to explain.

I just ordered the parts from ebay. I'll try to document the process and post it here later. Depends when I get the parts.
The trunk pop kit (solenoid) is made by DEI (makers of the Viper car alarm). Part # 522T For the relay, I ordered a Bosch 12V, 30A part. |

I was looking for a post like this since I would like to have automatic trunk release in my LX. However, it seems that the way you have it setup will cause the trunk to always pop open when you hit the unlock button on the key. Thus causing you to have to shut it everytime you unlock the car. Is this true? If so, I'm not sure this would be something I want to do. However, I will state again-Great job figuring this out.

OEM remote key!!
I think he's talking about the remote key not the unlock in the car.
How does the OEM remote work. otherwise you can just hit the manual lever with the same amount of effort. the OEM remote on the key is the real seller here. arms full of groceries and shopping bags. POP with the OEM remote, that's what I am looking for. can ya just click it three times or something like that? one is driver side, two is all doors, three is trunk? THAT WOULD SELL ME. until that, I'll just use the little lever for free $$. |
