DIY: Moonroof Visor Removal

I didn't like the look of the moonroof visor on my car so I decided to remove it. Today I finally got around to it and figured that I would make a DIY as well!

Things you will need:
Pliers - I chose needle nose
Screwdriver - Phillips head
Some rags
Something to clean up dirt and scratches (Polish - not like the wax I have pictured below)



The first thing you will want to do is open the moonroof all the way. Look under the visor and you will see a black ribbed bar (at the very front of the moonroof opening) and some brackets holding the visor in place. On top of the visor are four screw heads.
In the picture below, I have circle two of the brackets in red.



You can now remove the two outside screws. Reach under the spoiler with your pliers and grasp the small plastic nut under the screw. Then, start backing the screw out. Once your are done with that, set the screw and nut aside and slide the black bracket out.



Then do the same for the two screws in the middle. To remove the brackets, push down on the ribbed black bar. It is plastic and should be very obvious. This is the easiest way to remove the inside brackets. Notice that the inside brackets are longer than the outside ones. You should wind up with this hardware in the end.



Depending on how long the visor has been on your car, you may notice a lot of dirt under the rubber gasket. I had mine on for a little over five thousand miles and there was quite a bit of dirt. Over time, the visor left two parallel scratches on my roof.

In my first picture, I have a jar of wax representing the item that you will need to clean up. I would take a rag to wipe off the dirt and asses the damage. I plan on buying some polish to work the scratches out. They aren't terribly deep but they are long and have dirt in them to make them very overt.

Removing the visor is painless. Hopefully you won't have a set a scratches to remove. I'm not too bent out of shape though. Reply or PM me if you have any questions!
