Hey, just like you, I live in San Jose too. I myself has not been pulled over for not having a front license plate. But I heard some stories that cops do cite for it. A Honda manager told me that nowadays, its not a "fix-it" ticket but a actual ticket. I myself might place the front license to avoid fine as soon as my license plates arrive. But who knows, I might not... Lol

Toss the front plate and move to AZ, and you wouldn't need one. It is messing up the good looking baby face!

Typically, if you're issued two plates, its expected (read: required) to display one at the front and one in the rear. A quick call to your DMV should answere any questions. Also you can google for your states highway patrol or dept of public safety site. Sometimes they post information like that.

Actually, the laser still needs to reflect back to the gun for the gun to "see" it. Radar and laser are both reflection based systems, as is sonar. A beam of light, or a sweep of radar work in a similar way. That is, they bounce of the object and back, and the speed of the vehicle is measured with a complicated formula of how fast the trip was made. That being said, back in the day both radar, and later laser, required relatively flat surfaces so that a sufficient amount of the radar pulse or the light emitted would be sent back to the gun for a reading. The flattest and most reflective areas on a car in those days were the plates and the headlights. Basically, when laser or radar hits an object, it reflects off in countless directions. One of these directions tends to be back toward the source. The issue always was that the gun required a strong amount to be reflected back to get a reading. This is the reason that radar detectors worked so well in the beginning. When I first got one, the officers kept their radar on ALL THE TIME. All the unsuspecting cars pass through. My detector would get a reading on a direct hit from the radar gun, OR on reflections that came off of other vehicles.

Nowadays the guns have gotten better in that they are more sensitive. This means that if you hit a vehicle on a non-flat surface, the beam will primarily bounce off away from the gun, but part of that beam will bounce back toward the gun. Newer guns can get a reading off of these weaker reflections, which is why they don't need to score a direct hit on a flat surface anymore.

That being said, the gun can theoretically be fooled if there is no reflective surface (like on a stealth jet) or if there is TOO MUCH reflection from various sources and the gun can't figure out what belongs to it and what is coming from other sources.

Took my front plate/bracket off of my coupe too.
Bumper was not drilled, thankfully.
Have the plate and bracket in the trunk.

I like how it looks without the front plate, and how, I imagine, more air flows into that large opening at the front of the car without the plate in the way...
same goes for wa . but i just took mine off as soon as i got my car home .

as long as you guys don't do anything stupid to attract the cops like speeding, you can get away without the front plates. been driving since 89, never had a ticket on not having a front plate. or..make an excuse like...hmmmm...the thing fell off when i had an accident...lol. all they are going to tell you is to order a new plate. i got away with that excuse. good luck to you all. i'm leaving mine off.

I just got caught for this last week. Well, because of my smoked rear license plate cover...and he just added the front to it. Ah well, did the license plate flip, get the ticket squared away, then take it back off a week after that...

That said, I hate my new buck-toothed look.
