I live in SoCal and I haven't had any trouble driving around with my front plate off. Granted, it's only been 4 months now, but I've driven by a ton of cops they don't do anything. I guess once they do, I'll do this mod.

whered you hear this crap? im a reserve officer here in st. louis, and no we dont aim at the front license plate. we dont have to, the equipment we use, along with all of the modern radar/laser equipment we use, does not need a flat surface, just a moving object. radar equipment hasnt required a flat reflective surface since the 80's and that equipment is not used in any police department because it is no longer lawyer proof.

Since LASER speed detection equipment requires the light to reflect back into the gun, users are trained to aim at the front licence plate. You are describing the use of RADAR to detect the speed of a vehicle, and does not require accuracy. RADAR and LASER require two completely different methods of operation.

also... laser equipment is a new technology used by law enforcement. why would we switch to something that is harder to use. in most of the cars we have the laser devices are mounted permenantly in the front and rear of the car, so we have no control of where it points. and on most small cars the laser hits in the windsheild area. thats the thing about the laser detection, the laser does not need to come back the gun like the sonar(radar) equipment did. with the laser, it emits a tiny, laser beam(like a laser pen) and the gun itself can somehow see the tiny dot that is placed on the vehicle, it doesnt need reflection or a flat surface, as long as the laser hits the car your going to get their speed. most of the time we are hitting the sides of cars anyways, not the front or the back. plus, if it were true that the laser needed reflection the license plate wouldnt work. the plates are designed with holographics inside of them, and when light hits them, especially a small beam like a laser, the light is not reflected straight back, it is reflected in several different directions. your just taking info from companies that develop "laser detection" devices that tell you to mount this thing right above your plate and you wont get pulled over, its a bunch of bull.

My dealer drilled the bumper to mount the plate bracket... Guess they're MORON's... Would certainly have liked to have this option of moving the plate.

Conversation Breakage:

Sorry guys...

But, I don't see how turn the "plate bracket" 180* and then cutting/drilling it will make it fit... Can someone take a picture of the bracket/plate bracket in a close up please???

Thanks.

I'll take a picture later today and show you. its actually really simple if you cut off the proper portion.

I can do a DIY if need be, but its supah simple.

Yeah i did this mod also, but noticed that it rests pretty firmly on the lower lip. Basically what you do is dremmel this:

-----
|
____|
-----
|
____|

This is where the screw holds onto the bumper. after rotating it 180 degrees, dremel off the TOP nub thing as low as you can go. If you're so inclined, dremel also the bottom edge (used to be the top) of the frame to make sure it doesn't rest on your bumper. Hope this helps some people

Edit: Didn't realize this had 4 pages already lol. But anyways, it still does rest on the bumper at the bottom, so that's the one reason I took this off.
