HFP Axle Back on an EX Coupe Help D:

So I decided to order the HFP Axle Back from CHH because of the sale they were running, and all of the successful hassle free R18 installs that I reviewed reinforced my decision. This is my first mod in this area so if i get the terminology wrong please forgive and correct, im here to learn

First I removed the stock EX muffler, using a thin tipped flathead to remove the stock gasket.

I then plugged the mounts for the HFP muffler into the rubber holder and placed the new (larger) gasket on the flange of the resonator.

As I moved the HFP muffler into place over the new flange on the resonator's rear flange I tried to center it best as possible, but because it was loose I assumed it would get moved into place as the muffler was tightened and I put tension on the bolt's springs. I suppose this is where I could have made a mistake, do I need to pay more attention to this gasket?

I then inserted the new bolts (identical to stock, just shiny and new) with the springs on them into the mufflers flange, hand started and tightened them and began to tighten them down. This is where I found (i think) the larger problem.

The holes in the flange of the muffler are slightly (could not be more than 1/16th of an inch) offset from the threaded holes in the resonators flange. So the bolts would only tighten so far before I would crossing threads.

I figured that taking grinder to the holes in the flange to enlarge them would be the easiest fix, but if i take take even 1/16" off it the hole will be on the bend in the mufflers piping where its welded to the flange and I don't want any issues with leaking.

SO, I beg of thee, anyone who has installed the HFP axle back on an R18 any advice would be great, especially if anyone has had this issue. Like I said i've read so many others have gotten this to work no problem and the HFP Axle Back seems to be the most popular choice next to a full on Skunk2 or Vibrant Cat Back (and this cost me 1/3 of their prices).

If I can get this working this will feed my mod bug and keep it full through the winter when I finish school and I can trade up to an Si :o
