Probably the cam itself was advanced which can cause an increase in pressure.

took a while to get put in the diy forums haha... i dont know why i couldnt post in there anymore.. but my compression was around 185 across all four cylinders... factory manual says 135 +-28psi. i talked to several techs at the dealership, they said that 185 seems normal, very healthy, 135 +- 28 seems wrong.

ok. lets say that your compression is low in one of your cylinders what is the problem? How do you fix it?

At that point you will need to do a Leakdown test to determine what is causing the low compression.

and what are some common reasons why something would cause low compression. when you lose compression what happens to the car? (poor mpg, performance, ect)

^^^ There are a number of different reasons for compression loss... most of them expensive fixes. Valves, pistons, rings, headgasket... to find out which one it is you do a leakdown test.

if you have loss of compression in one of the cylinders, you best take it to a qualified mechanic if you don't know how to diagnose it yourself.

Bad piston rings, bent valves, blown headgasket.
