ok this may sound noobish but instead of taking out the whole Resonator why not just disconnect the rubber tube that connects the Resonator to the air filter box? it saves time and effort! i dont know if it works or not i was just wondering for those who are too lazy to take out their bumper or inner wheel well.

You can do that and you will get the same affect in the sound of your engine but some people like to leave some of the pipeing in there so they can suck in cold air when they are moving, since just removing just that rubber tube supposedly just sucks the hot air from the engine especially at idle. But none of this should be to notieable unless you were on a dyno then maybe. hope that makes sense and helps and answers your question.

Ditto on that. You will get colder air if you leave the piping connected so that it draws air from the cavity left by removing the intake resonator.

Also, as a test, I just removed the rubber piping from the filter box and ran it like that for a weekend, and the sound was really crappy. In my opinion, it had a rough, crappy-sounding and low-pitched sound at above 3,000 RPMS... I didn't like it, so I switched back to the no-resonator-extended-piping setup, with it's really nice and easy-on-the-ears roar at high RPMS, and am staying there!

I noticed a difference! To confirm my butt dyno, I borrowed a friend's GTec Pro one evening. The butt dyno was correct. Go here to see the G-Tec's "dyno" differences:

Did some testing on my car, interesting results

^^ I am glad you were able to notice a difference. I just noticed a big sound difference when I had this done.

I'm going to install the Top Fuel SRI and there's obviously no connection between the SRI and the stock resonator tubing. If I leave the resonator tubing on, will it flap around and hit things? I mean, it's not connected to the stock airbox any longer once I put the SRI in. I was gonna remove the resonator tubing altogether but you guys make a good point about leaving it in to still draw in cold air from the fender. Did that make sense?

It probably won't flap around, but it's so easy to take out, I say go for it.
The statement that it will still draw in cold air is a myth. M-Y-T-H.

The snorkel comes out in the right of the engine bay, so that's not very cold air, but the overriding fact is that if you have no pressure gradient, you have no air pressure. The only reason air comes into the intake in a naturally-aspirated engine is because the internal combustion in the engine creates a vacumn that pulls it in. You could force air in with either a turbo or with a ram-air effect through the cowl, hood, or bumper.

Props on the write up and info.
I'm definitely going to do this mod. I'd like to see some pics of how the Mugen RR's airbox is setup exactly???
Not sure I have the money to get the carbon fiber airbox though! lol

When I first did the mod, I disconnected the pipe from the resonator that leads up to the pipe that's mounted under the battery tray, and left it as such, so that the tip of the intake system was the tip of the pipe under the battery tray. I worried, later, that this was too close to the radiator, so, like the original mod suggests, I cut off the pipe from the resonator right where it joins the resonator box, and then re-attached that to the pipe under the battery tray. After a couple days driving it like this, it seems 'punchier' than the previous version. I'm slightly baffled, because, instinct says, because the piping is longer, then throttle response should be reduced, but it's actually better. The only thing that I can think of is that perhaps it is drawing in much cooler air, from extending the intake all the way into the cavity left by the resonator. Neato!
I did this as well...

I have a 2008 FA5, and I removed my resonator tonight, and I was surprised to find it only mounted with two bolts; not three. My car didn't have the mount under the battery tray.

Also, I didn't remove my front bumper to get it out. I removed a panel underneath the front bumper, and part of the fender liner, and that was it.
Thanks for figuireing this out.

Why remove the resonator? The stock intake brings cool air directly in from the fender well area and flows it down through the resonator up to the filter and to the intake, I don't see any head soak issues there...?

People do this beacuse it seems like there is a little bit more response and it makes your car louder but a nice loud. Its like a deeper sound from your engine and a little from your exhaust.
