just make sure you add the last piece waiting for warmer weather to put in a better bracket and to dremel out the inside of airfilter box...

I did this like three weeks ago only i cut more of the piping and extend the tube all the way to the fog light vent which i cut out. Total cost $0.00 . Also on another note, My Friend who bought an Injen CAI for Roughly $300.00, use to put about a car on me with his intake, and when we were stock we were dead even. Now i put about 2 Cars on him because of this mod! GREAT DIY!!!

ok, here is the deal.

I did this mod and it worked great for awhile. Then limp mode with no CEL,wouldn't rev past 6k, no vtec.

It's been at the dealer since monday, just found out that the rubber end piece will fold in on it's self when the rpm's increase. Therefore cutting off air to motor. No CEL will come on.

So if anyone else has the same problem this should be the reason.

great idea/mod. but I'm going to make it better by changing a few things.

Yes, it is possible on an R18. I did basically the same thing on my EX. The resonator tubing is different, but it's the same idea. For the DX/LX/EX you will have to take the battery out to remove the down tube bracket. There are two bolts that sit right under the battery tray. Also, the R18 has a snorkel tube that sits to the right of the battery. You will have to twist about 1/4 turn and pull to get it off. I hacked the resonator box off right at the base of the tube and reattached the tubing to the down tube. It puts the opening just in front of the fender well. With a K&N drop-in filter, there is a nice boost in pickup and a subtle increase in sound at mid-to-full throttle. I would imagine it will sound a bit louder with an aftermarket exhaust. The stock exhaust is way too tame sounding. No clue how much power gain it will give you. Probably 3-5hp for the K&N and resonator removal together.

For all of those who are scared to cut the tubing, you can buy a complete replacement resonator box for less than $30 from hondaautomotiveparts.com. That's a whole lot cheaper than getting a CAI and changing your mind later.

PS- I'm a big fan of DIY stuff (and I am an engineer). Keep up the good work fiji06si13.
That's exactly what I plan on doing with my R18. Already have the filter, going to take out the box when I have a free weekend.
Have you any concerns about drawing in water with this setup? Seems like the opening is a little higher than in the mod for the SI that originated this thread.

yeah im gonna remove mine this weekend cause its pointless to have now since i have an SRI. I have a K&N Typhoon, and there is a hole in the included heat shield for the stock air hose to fit there, but I really doubt it generates any vacumn at all to actually suck air from the stock hose to prevent heat soak

Another question. Hondata says in order for the reflash to work right you need the minimum of an Intake/Header. Would this count as an intake that would work with the reflash?
