thanks, i still need to remove the factory junk. at the time i left it there for some air flow, but then realized there isn't any actual draw to it. going to take it out when i put in the gaskets and spacer.

Looks good man. I'll probably be unpainted as well, since I don't really care. Either way, close to 190 with just an intake is great! What are your other mod plans?

ok well, before i start, thanks steve. ok so i can use a router bit and a dremel tool to cut the housing? It looked like X had a much bigger and more powerful router than i do, but i have the best one that dremel makes. i have the same little file and the big file X used, that shouldnt be a problem. and steve, you said that the 3"to3" comes with that piece? or the 3"to2.5" kit comes with that piece i need? i know i need the 3"to3" for the filter to mate with maf housing. thanks and sorry for the paragraph.

it's one piece, look for it at autozone, it has an adapter/inner tube you shove in there to make the 3" diameter a half inch smaller. it will say on it 3to3 or 3to2.5. the extra tube is what you can use to protect the other side/rest to give the angle.

check this out

see the insert hiding in there?

well, until i get to the filing which wont be for another week or so i wont have anymore questions. i am pretty mechanically inclined and have an acute attention to detail so i should be ok. i just want to say thanks for going above and beyond to answer my questions. i would rep you again if i could, but thanks so much man!!!!!!!

no problem.

my "mechanical knowledge" or possibly my impatientness led me to do this and i must say it was very simple. 6 hours or so. just have the right tools and a brain and you can do it. famous words for anyone reading this....there should be nothing stopping you from doing it.

even with the cost of tools i only spent a little over 150 (sears/craftsman sale ftw), 175 should cover it. if you consider yourself someone who likes to "work on your car", then just try it....and then get a dyno to be sure nothing is terribly out of whack.

btw still hoping my a/f looks good enough. i'd like more people, including x, to chime in and tell me what they think.

good luck guys, bite the bullet and get it done.

well i dont think i can do a baseline pull because i threw away my stock airbox like a genius, but when im done with the intake i will def get to the dino and post results. i have however done a little research and with the help of my friend who just happens to be a mechanical engineer, i think i will modify the maf housing to a different spec based on an even better airflow design which in effect could create more horse whilst not affecting the maf sensor or making the vehicle run to lean. i will post dyno sheets when i can and pics of the design i want to try but i still need time to test it. (my buddys got a wind tunnel for this project!)

footnote, im not implying that i could improve over x's design as i am not willing to put the hours into the r&d that he did but its worth a shot and with the dyno's ive seen it would be very hard to reinvent the wheel besides i think everyone owes him a huge thanks for giving everyone the diy and helping out fellow tuners when he could have concievably kept it to himself and profit all the more.

So I finished filing down the vanes today...it definitely took some time and patience. I didn't have the right size files, I bought a $10 kit at lowes which included about 7 different ones. To get the angle right, I printed out a protractor .pdf, layed it behind a clear piece of plastic (I used the packaging from the spectre coupler), and exactoed a little plastic guide that I used every once in a while to make sure I was getting it right.

Just waiting for the filter (Corsport is the best price I could find!) and tube to come in . I also need to get the mount piece from X. Does anyone know the best way to get ahold of him? I also need to find a place that has a dyno around here. When I get it dynoed, I'll post a copy. Thanks to Caliguy for the vids and a huge thanks to X for agreeing to do the dyi.

Probably the safe bet, but that would require way more patience than I have...besides, I'm enough of a perfectionist that I think I made it work though <knocks on wood>.
