Started modifying mine yesterday. Didn't get too far as I didn't have much time, but things make a lot more sense when you start to do things.

Questions for X
1) If you get uneven filing on the fins, I'm assuming you just focus on the uneven area before you get it completely filed down?

2) When using the small file on the sides, at what angle do you file? Completely vertical on the whole thing or at a similar angle to what is being achieved by the big file?

i used 4 files to get the job done, a slim, half moon, and two tranglar files. mainly to save time. but with the have moon i do the edges and then side to side movement on with the 2 tranaglar files.

I'm using a similar flat file with a pointed edge for the sides and a triangular for the general filing. For the side filing though with the flat file, do you place the file flat against the fin, or at an angle (5 degrees? or greater as to not mess up the 5 degree angle you're trying to achieve with the triangular file?)

I'm using something almost exactly like the 3rd from the left.

On this note, let me know if you sent out my bracket yet. Still waiting on the filter from CorSport so no hurry. Just curious.

Well here's some progress pics.. Couple more questions for ya X

1) It doesn't seem like my angle is narrow enough. My filing doesn't go all the way to the back edge of the vane (as you can see in the pics below. I'm not sure if this is because I was using a thinner rubber circle to protect the back part of the MAF housing compared to the spectre rubber circle. Any input on this?

2) I'm sure you can tell my filing is a bit uneven in some spots. Is there a way to rectify this? Do I actually need to try and achieve an angle with the flat file on the edges or does the triangle file acheive this when doing the main filing of the whole vane?

3) Any other general feedback about what you can see in my pics? Thanks!

Holy moly, I just finished my DIY X intake today and i think my car needs an exorcism now.

Crazy rips.

All i have is the helix throttle body spacer in terms of engine mods and now I can barely get traction even with VSA and UHP tires on.

Ya that one corner has been giving me problems and been trying to focus on that. I've also started using that spectre ring in the back to give me more of an angle, and now the filing is further back. I'm going to finish off that side and the other side tomorrow. Spent a bit of time on the bench grinder getting rid of most of the excess plastic that I didn't saw off yet. Will hopefully be done tomorrow and just be waiting for my filter bracket!

i normally a DIY guy, but i'm glad i'm leaving this up to X in this case. sounds like a tedious PITA! props to everyone who tackled this on their own - only thing that sucks in my case is the wait! hook it up, xfactor!
