Great DIY! I did mine just right now. All I need to do is go to home Depot and pick up some mesh to cover up the holes!

do you have to use bondo or can you just extend the mesh and screw it in to the existing holes where fog lights connect? that way removal would be easier if you decide to change it?

whatever gets the job done to your satisfaction...

If you get screws to work, post some pics.

Maybe something can still be done? There are a lot of very creative people on the 8th!
I'll hopefully be doing it this weekend on my Si Sedan. See the black plastic lower grill...well in the left and right corners it's solid....the horizontal fins (or whatever you want to call them) are still there, but there's flat plastic behind them.

So, I'm going to cut out the plastic between the fins, but leaving the fins. Tonight I did a DIY icebox intake...sort of. It will soon be ram air though :)

I'll post some more pictures tomorrow night (left the camera at a buddy's place) of what I've done so far and what I plan to do...it'll make more sense then.

This is great !! I thought I was the only one that had done this. I cut out the fog light area right after I got my car in April last year. I didnt put any mesh behind it though. A friend of mine thinks I should cut the whole thing out instead of just the round fog area. So im thinking about doing it. I never liked the fog light look. I wanted more of a meaner look to the front of my car.

If anyone has cut out the front bottom grill area of the car please let me know, as im planning on doing that in the next couple of weeks. Im going to cut out the front bottom grill and put in black mesh behind it.

i didnt take the time to read everyones responses to this post, but i will admit to not putting anything there, as a matter of fact i only cut out the driver side, but i DID feel a slight improvement in how it drove, specifically the response when at a roll,

btw i did this long ago before i ever joied the forum and am currently working on a tubing concept to simply cool down the interior of the bay using the pass side hole

and if anyone is worried about water going in thru the new hole and hitting your filter.. just fabricate somethin to put behind it when it rains so it will stop the water.. end of story :)

I see that CorSport offers a Grillcraft MX series mesh like cover for the entire front. You can keep your top part with the H badge but still get the entire lower part mesh, including the entire fog lite area.

All of the pictures are fairly self explanatory.

The wire mesh is a woven .050” diameter 300 stainless steel wire with .100” openings, which allows about 47% ventilation. I purchased a 12” square piece from McMaster-Carr.

The first pics show the front of the car with the bumper (stock), and then removed. There are already a couple of DIY’s that explain the bumper removal procedure, which took me about 15 minutes.

I cut out the openings with a standard utility knife. A fresh blade goes through the plastic like butter. I smoothed/evened the edges with a file.

Using the cut-out piece of plastic, I marked and cut a slightly bigger rectangle of the mesh. Laying it over the opening, I marked diagonal lines at the corners.

With a bench vise and pliers I bent the corners of the mesh to sit flush against the plastic. I checked to make sure the mesh rested flatly against the opening.

I was now time to attach the mesh, and for this I chose Bondo. It provides a secure enough grip to withstand the impact of a rock at highway speed, and cures in a couple of minutes – so you have to work quickly.

I made sure that the Bondo would not be visible from the outside after I was done.

I'm not sure I will ever feel any performance difference, but I have to believe the extra air will help. I'm not concerned with water sice my CAI has a bypass valve to address that.
Question if it rains hard how confident are you that the intake won't suck up water or if you run into a pubble of water

That concern exists for any CAI intake owner regardless of whether the foglight opening is cut out. I mentioned in my first post that my CAI is an AEM with a bypass valve, which is designed to prevent hydrolock. I still try to avoid deep puddles anyway, and will drive one of my other vehicles if I know there will be heavy rain.

I have driven in some fairly vigorous downpours, and have not experienced any issues. However, I am fortunate in that my SI is my "fair weather car."
