It's a good thing we use filters to remove that stuff that somehow gets into the engine. Perhaps we are better off not knowing.

Maybe the sprinkles got there from the process of taking apart the filter. Could be some of the outer shell of the filter. Its a nice hope, anyway.

cant be that. the engine would have to be running for them to be sucked into the filter. maybe the internals had numbers onthem..

dude it looks like stuff from the filter the green stuff isnt the outside of the filter green
and isn't this your first oil change ever on the car? it could be the metal parts in the engine coming from the factory thats why you're supposed to have the first oil change pretty early because of ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ the metal floating around in the engine
am i correct?

no, not quite. they generally tell you to run the oil till 15% and that usually is 5-8k for most. i did it before 3 because my car was feeling funny, the oil appeared super dark, and then i find these....

so I read that someone suggested drilling the filter before taking it off so that the oil in it could drip out, good idea? say drilling down in the bottom of the filter so it can drain into a ziploc bag? yes? no? also, RP, best oil by general consencus?

not necessary at all. i used one of those caps/wrench, fit on a socket, to losen it, then i put the bag on and started twisting, used a gallon sized zip lock....worked fine....almost no drips.

and whatever did drip was easily wiped up with a papertowel correct? also, I've read multiple sides of how much of your passenger side to expose, anybody got what works best as far as being able to get to the filter in the event that oil does get all over the place? it seems like just taking off the wheel and fender lining works, but is it as easy as say taking off the front bumper?

passenger wheel yes, lining, not necessary, i just laid down and was able to reach up in there....it's a little odd, but totally doable....and yes, what little bitty drip there was is easily cleaned up with a shop towel or kitty litter.

right on, so sorry to be a bother to anybody, but the total parts list would be 5 qts of 5w-30 synth, a new filter, new crush washer (still kinda in the dark on this one), and what else? it doesn't seem like much work and I can't wait to get my oilchange destiny into my own hands

well that's all you'll need for your car.....don't forget the funnel and oil drain pan jug thing.

about the crush washer thing...i have reused them many times before without a problem, but they do say to do it each time...but if you have a torque wrench you won't be doing much damage to the washer each time and can get a couple uses out of each one.

i usually go by the honda parts counter and the guy gives me a few for free when i ask to buy some. he's a cool dude.

hope this helps.
