Yeah, although they didn't phrase it in a very nice way, you should never overfill your oil for those reasons stated in the thread. Put in 4 quarts, check the levels regularly and top it off when necessary.

I did my first oil change on my SI lastnight at 4870 miles. Dang was the filter on there tight. It was over torqued so bad, and what made it even worse was the end of the filter was rounded off a bit making it impossible for the filter wrench to grab. I also did not take the tire off, just turned the wheel all the way to the right, there was plenty of room to remove the filter.
Royal Purple 5w-30 all the way. |

Just did my oil change on my Si what a PITA that oil filter was to get to. Filled her up with RP 5W-30 and she runs smooth. How much oil does our Si take cause I put in 5qts and it was barely on the dipstick?

The original filter that came with the car was so over tighten that blue coating around the gasket was rubbed off.
There was also amount of oil leaking from the filter also! Anyone else experience this problem? By the time I reached 4200 miles I had put in an additional 1.5 qt. |

I know I know.....back from the dead.....but just changed the oil in the ride to RP 5w30 and had my .02 on the oil filter. I thought it was pretty much a piece of cake and MAYBE got about 1/2 oz of oil on the axle boot....easily taken care of by a paper towel. Anyways....I crammed an old towel ontop of the axle directly under the filter and spread it out a little. Used one hand to unscrew the filter quickly making sure I got the leaky end in the air as soon as I could to avoid spilling the oil.
Like I said....my .02....enjoy.

first oil change on my own... oh man it was fun!
little tips: get a light in there so you can see everything, turn the wheels all the way to the right and pop off the mudflap or whatever that plastic thing is(inside the wheel well), laying behind and inside the tire, theres a way you can reach straight in to the filter to take it off(if that makes sense?), get lots of rags under there and definitely dont drop the filter in the oil pan. good times |

After many years of removing oil filters on imports and domestics, I still find the freezer storage bag/large zip-lok bag trick to work the best. I've done four oil/filter changes on my Si so far and plastic bag trick has worked like a charm each time.
