Just did my mind for the first time. Easiest oil change I've ever done but you will DEFINITELY need some type of wrench to get the factory filter off. Advance Auto Parts didn't have an exact fit socket-type wrench but they did have this: Oil Filter Wrench by Performance Tools - Part W173C/T70426 - Advance Auto Parts

Very handy and it should fit just about any filter.

^^ I didn't buy a filter wrench. If I can't manage to loosen the filter by hand. I take my belt off (the leather belt on my pants) and sinch that around it. Works exactly the same way plus its pretty much free.

Alright I've searched all over and I know I saw this part on the forum somewhere. I'm looking for a quick release type oil drain plug. It looks basically like a quarter turn valve so you can just flip the valve and the oil comes out without the need of tools. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I think it's called Fumuto or Fumoto or something like that

Anyone ever hear from the dealership that 5 quarts isn't enough for the Si? I thought it took ~4.6 quarts, but the dealership told me 5.3.

Can someone confirm about the K&N HP-1018 Oil Filter. I got it from Amazon and not sure if I can use it - seems too big. '09 Civic EX Sedan.

Thanks.

Make sure the car is safely supported.

Remove Oil cap from valve cover

Remove drain plug, let all oil run out until its like drip drip drip

Then replace Drain plug, before u do clean the threads and washer.

Snug the drain plug, don't try to torque it down.

Remove old oil filter, and spread a little oil on the new filters O ring so the filter can be removed very easily next time.

Snug it on good also.

Fill engine with oil, On my GF's r18(lx,dx,ex) I put about 4.5ish My Si I put almost the entire 5 quart jug.

Reinstall filler cap

Lower car, Start it up and let it idle for 20 seconds and then reset you Oil indicator, I think you hold both buttons, look it up.

If you drive an SI..

remove the right wheel, that way you have easy access to your oil filter.

Good luck.

Surprisingly, my oil filter was a piece of cake. I removed the passenger side front wheel, sat on my butt with the brake disc basically above my lap, and just reached in with my right hand. I was able to get an easy grip on the filter and loosen it easily. The drain bolt on the other hand, that freakin thing has to be welded on there. It is definitely too tight to do with a breaker bar in a driveway. The manual says its torqued to 29ft.lbs., but it has to be tighter than that. I put what little ass i had into it, and it didn't even creak.

What is the best oil (type/brand) and oil filter? Does it really make a difference of what type you use.... What has your experience been?

When I first bought my honda and started doing research on the different oils and reg vs. synthetic, everyone has their own opinions. No matter what oil you use, your honda will last a long time if take care it.

The first time I went to the Honda dealer to get my first oil change years ago, i noticed they offered a mobil 1 synthetic oil. I looked into mobil 1 and everyone said great things about it. Its a better oil than the reg stuff and honda gives it the seal of approval(literally). For me, Mobil 1 is the best choice. Honda approves it and is readily available at any auto store, unlike Amsoil(not sold in local auto stores) which is another fav on this site.
