Not sure if this has been mentioned or how long it will last, but I just picked up a 5qt jug of Mobil1 5w20 for $22 at Wally world and it wasn't a sale tag. That's down here in the Fort Lauderdale, FL area.

I have been using the fram filter on my cars for quite some time they are not all that bad, and the ruberized coating on them is quite helpful

The bag trick works most of the time for me......provided I take my time and I make sure the I keep the bag tight to the oil cooler as I remove the filter. One wrong move and you'll have a 1/2 qrt of oil on you chest. Also take care as you remove the bag with the oil and filter from under the car......if you're using a cheapo bag and you hit the bag on something sharp.....you'll have a 1/2 qrt of oil on you.

Honestly, there's no sure fire way to get a mess free oil change on Si. I'm coming up on my 15th oil change and I'd say that I end up with a mess 25% of the time.

great post ethlar. I wrote a little Si (Fg2) supplement... which is just a hi-jacked version of your DIY with Fg2 pics and a little more time spent on the filter. It can be found here

Again... great DIY. Thanks.

I put the car on ramps. Thank you to the original poster of this post for the great pictures it helped me on my first oil change for my car and it was much appreciated. Even with the car on ramps, getting the drain bolt off is a pain in the ass..

Do have a quick question for you guys, I have a 2008 4 door automatic EX-L, I dont drive it hard and I use synthetic oil. Ive been using valvoline synthetic 5w20 and the best fram oil filter (the ones for synthethic/ extended miles), and when I changed my oil this time (after about 6k miles/ 40% left) The oil looked terrible, the car only has 28k miles on it. But i mean like sludge terrible. The oil was jet black, thick and ive never seen that on my car before.. Is that normal for our cars?

im pretty sure oil is supposed to look dirty when you take it out because you know it is doing its job (cleaning and lubricating the engine)

you should also drive it hard every so often to clean out that engine...no joke

my car has been really slugish since i bought it with mixed driving as in hard/ normal since i bought it, ive put many highway miles on it and some city with 28k miles on the car im barely averaging 30 miles per gallon. On the highway ill get 32 tops, but if its all city i will only get about 27 miles per gallon, with the slughish performance and im using synthetic oil would you guys suggest I do a round of seafoam treatment on my car???

i just hit 50k miles on my 06 ex and when i change my oil its usually pretty dark, i like to change my oil before it gets really hot in the spring and really cold in the winter, i usually change oil bout 3 times per year. i am averaging 37 to 38 mpg. mostly highway miles though. its been consistent for me so far.
