i don't want to be the one to tell you that you don't need to do it every time....just cause you can strip out your pan if you aren't careful and that is a nightmare.

for a few cents a piece it is a good idea for peace of mind.

but again, i reused the same one a few times with my accord.

honestly try going by the parts counter and saying you need to pick one up....EVERY TIME i have done this the guy gives me 3-5 for free. but even so you need 1 every 3 months and it cost less than $1....do whatever you think it right....just make sure you torque it right.

yeah I've got tools out the wazoo, it's not terribly intimidating, the first time I took my bumper off, THAT was nervewracking, but it all worked out just fine, once I get my badges next week i'll post some exterior shots of the ride

Why did honda make the rp18's oil filter right next to the drain bolt, when the SI's filter makes you feel like a fat kid trying to scrape the end of a cookie jar?

Agreed, If I didn't have a condor like wing span and a lift in the garage I would be paying to have my oil changed.

It's stupid how easy it is when you get a straight on grip on the filter.

I know the oil filter location in the Si sucks, but it's not half as bad as everyone says it is. I personally find it's easier to scoot all the way back to the middle of the car and grabbing the filter through the sub-frame.

Did my first change today. That filter was a *****.... had to stick a screwdriver through it to get it loose, and then actually getting it off..... ugh. Car swallowed 5 quarts even and came up just under the top mark on the dipstick, so I'll call that good.

use a breaker bar?

honestly the drain plug isnt in there that tightly. this may sound silly, but you could have been turning it the wrong way. when your there on your back and useing a wrench facing the opposite way sometimes you get your left and right confused with the bolts left and right.

hook another wrench to it and push/pull. get more leverage on it!
