DIY: Oil change w/fumoto quick drain valve **PICS***

I can't believed it got 45k miles on it already. Still run like the day it came off the dealer. My average is 35-36mpg and this tank i'm getting 39mpg (I get ~410-430 miles between fill-up at 11 - 11.5 gallons)

Maintenance minder system told me it's time to change the oil.

Mobil 1 Synthetic & OEM Honda filter since day 1. I know it's just a Civic but I'm planning to get 300k miles out of this car without any major engine problem.

Jack the car up..

Remove the 710 cap.

Fumoto oil drain valve & oil filter

Flip the switch and watch it in action This thing makes oil changes a breeze.

Remove & replace the oil filter but make sure to put some oil into the new filter first & lube up the O-ring. Clean up any oil spills around the area with a shop rag.

Fill her up with only 4 quarts of oil...meaning you should have 1 quart left since it's a 5 quart container.

Reset the oil life by turning the key to "ON" position & holding the button as shown until the display starts to blink. Hold the reset button again to reset the oil life meter to 100%

Just in case anyone is wondering...

You need the Fumoto 106 & the long extension.

The only difference between the 106 vs. the 106N is the nipple at the end as seen in this pic.

nice job and DIY. always fun reading these.

that's a different oil filter wrench you got there. i use those larger channel-lock
looking ones. your engine room looks very clean too.

How easy is it to flip the switch? Great DIY btw. Seems like it takes longer to jack up the car then do the oil change

Not bad, altho my oil filters come off with just a little bit of pressure. I've done maybe 5,000 oil changes (worked in a shop and did a lot of repeat customers for years.) and never had any problems. The trick is to get them tight but not too tight. It takes practice

I think the space where drain bolt initially went has some of the oil pan hanging above it that would get in the way of the valve of the drain valve. The extension clears the valve from getting hung up when installing...I believe.

for those of use that maintain our cars, and don't like to be annoyed by things such as drain bolt torque settings, this is AWESOME. This is totally going on my christmas list!

update: get it here cheaper

You turn the switch on & off with 1 finger. Jacking the car up & lowering it takes pretty much 70% of my time in changing the car's oil. If I have a ramp to drive the car up, it'll probably take me 5 minutes to change the oil.

Yes that is the correct one...but it have the nipple at the end. You don't really need the nipple version.

You also need the "Long extension"
