Awesome help!
To everyone who posted this info, Thanks! This is awesome info!
I got a shiny new iPod Touch for Christmas and was using an FM transmitter (which pretty much sux when you live in SoCal since there are very few open frequencies) until I came across this info. Of course, I have a 06 Civic LX so I had no Aux port. But I do now! I used a 3.5mm M-F extension cable for my cable between the console and the Aux connector. I connected the female end of the cable to the aux port in the car and the male end of the cable to the new jack in the console. Now if I need to remove the console for some reason I just unplug the connector under the console and it can be easily removed. All told this cost me about $20, and that included the cost of buying a soldering iron and solder. WAY cheaper than paying Honda to do this. And using the little Radio Shack plug I was able to mount the aux jack just above and between the shifter and the parking brake. Now I'm off to Fry's to find a right-angle 3.5mm cable. |

Does this look correct?
![]() Red = right Green = left Yellow = ground (from both wires) I plugged pins 1,2,3 (from page 1's reference pins) respectively with red, green, yellow but no sound. I plugged pins 1,2,3 respectively with green, red, yellow but no sound! I'm not sure what's wrong here. I got the paper clip to connect pin 5 & 6 and it worked because I could switch CD to AUX...just no sound. |

Nevermind,
I scrapped that first wire and used another wire (aux cable), which already had the ground wire in one wire. My first wire (headphones) had a red, yellow, green yellow and the two yellow's were the ground. The second wire (aux cable) had a red, yellow, and white. After experimenting with combinations and the help of my uncle, we figured out the red wire was the ground. The sound works now. Maybe the first wire (headphone) was broken or something. Now I just have to mingle around with it some more because my sound system is giving me a sound output lower than I expected. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks for the DIY! |

I just bought a pioneer H/U which has a 3.5mm female input for aux in the rear. My question is if i splice a 3.5mm male cable. Can i use T-Taps to tap into the factory aux. I would prefer to tap from the cables near the factory radio harness if possible. If thats possible which wires do i need to tap.

Hello all I have a couple questions. I am looking to wire my iPhone up for use using this method but I am having some difficulty understanding the DIY. Im embarrassed to admit that since I am pretty fluent with electronics. So could anyone possibly 'dumb it down' a little for me? I appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thanks in advance.

have to agree with justin--a bit confusing for me. granted, i have zero experience with wiring. i got how to take off the console to get at the taped-up AUX plug, but from then it gets a bit hazy for me. so i understand at one end, there is the AUX plug which i ultimately want to connect to a stereo-mini male plug for my iPod. everything in between i dont get. do i just get one of those 3-pin female stereo-mini jacks and mount that into the console somewhere, and then wire that directly to the AUX plug? and then is it a simple matter of following the wiring outs as depicted here (wire the browns together, etc)? help!!

There are a few options for this install.
I used an old pair of headphones, cut the cord close to the headset and spliced that wire into the aux plug behind the shifter. The cable was fed through a slot in under the rear cubby hold (on the centre console, right behind the shifter) and it's nice and long... I've been look for pictures I had, but non are here, I can upload some later. Nice thing with using the headphone cord, once you strip it... red, green black, solder some thick paper clips to each wire, heat shrink wrap, and insert into the corresponding colour hole on the aux port. The other end already has your male plug to attach to whater device you want. Put a paper clip in pin 5 & 6, voila, you can switch between aux and cd. Good to go. Quote:

Is there a way to patch the AUX-in from my new stereo to the snazzy plug that sits next to my 12v? I have an extra aux-in on my HU, so I might as well hook it up while I've got it all taken apart. I see the pin-out for the aux input for use with the OEM, but not a way to patch that plug to an aftermarket HU. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks! |
