Is there a voltage running through pins 5 & 6 of the aux clip? (Just curious, yeah I could rip my console apart ad check myself, still too cold outside to do that)

Many thanks, Awesome DIY

*** EDIT : + Rep applied accordingly! Woot! WTG!

Honestly I have no clue if there is a voltage on 5 and 6. The method for determining the pin out was pure guess and check, finding grounds and then sending signal to different pins until the speakers made noise and finding the combination of pins to make aux available.

PAPER CLIP!

*grins* I just did my aux job, man, took 15mins.

And $0.00.

Parts:

1 standard paperclip
1 old set of stereo headphones (or a dolalr store brand)
solder iron, solder
Electrical tape
Electrical shrink wrap
Heat gun

After removing the center console rear tray (easy as anything)

Step 1: cut paperclip into equal lengths of four. Bend one piece into a 'U' and use that as your bridge wire.
Step 2: rip apart the old headset wire, strip the non plug end about 1/4inch to half an inch
Step 3: Solder grnd, red and white wires to a piece of paperclip
Step 4: heat shrink wrap over solder
Step 5:
Insert each end of the paper clip ito the Aux plug, they fit snuggly and won't fall out, take a bit of slack on cord, wrap it securley with electrical tape on the aux plug , and replace the cover.

*(the cord I used is 5 feet long, and I fed it through one of the tab holes in teh back of the cetre console tray, lots of room, it's at least 1/4inch by just under 1/2 inch hole, two of them so you don't have to dremel or anything)

I have this piece too that I will install in the tray at some point.

THAN YOU Again for this DIY info, awesome! WOOT!

Does anybody know how I can use my stock AUX input with my aftermarket head unit? The new head unit has an AUX input in the back. I want to wire my stock AUX input in the Civic to the rear of my aftermarket head unit. I ask in forums and everyone points to this thread. Unfortunately this thread shows how to install an AUX input to a Civic with no pre-existing AUX.

Should be able to take the connector and do simialr install, just use phono jacks to connect to the new aux input, hardwire the into the left/right side of your aux. Something like that, what headunit do you have? Thanks

Yes, you still haven't said the model of your headunit, or post a pic of the back end where the Aux is, so that we can see exactly and suggest how to properly attach it.

It's a Pioneer Premiere head unit. It takes normal mini stereo jack input.

thanks!
At the back of HU you will find the 20pin connector (second one from the right). The pins are ordered as following

1........10
11......20

There you go (the pin# in parenthesis is the pin# defined by ethlar post#1)
B3 = AUX SGND (3)
B4 = AUX SH GND (4??)
B5 = AUX GND (5)
B13 = AUX L (2)
B14 = AUX R (1)
B15 = AUX DET (6)

ethlar, when you were finding for the combination of the pin to make AUX available (pin 6&5; AUX GND&AUX DET). Did pin6&3 (AUX DET&AUX SGND) also make the AUX available? Thought you tried all combination and could give me some clue about that.

i dont actually have the honda part to check the resistance, we just did this by finding the grounds and a little bit of guess and check.
Thanks for this info and the wiring to the aux plug. I've done it and all appears to work well. However, I'm concerned about using a solid jumper from 5 to 6 vs. a resistor. If a resistor is intended then wouldn't the jumper draw more current? I'm concerned that if it was designed for a resistor then I'm possibly drawing more current and risking over-heating or damaging the radio or AUX wiring.
Please let me know if you have had any over heat / over current problems.
Thanks!

In my idea, the pin 5&6 is basically a circuit for sensing the HU that there is a device connect to AUX.

By wiring the pin 5&6 to 3.5mm switch type female jack (the jack has 5 pin two for switching, three for audio signal), this will tell the HU that the AUX mode would available when we press the CD/AUX button if there is nothing connect to it the AUX function will be disable.
