AUX connector
Quote:
Also my brother owns his own car audio shop in California. He is working on making his own connector cheaper than Honda's. Also, Honda told us the connecter was $200. If anyone is interested in getting a connector for cheaper, let me know. TIM |

This is a great post. As recommended, I used some 22 gauge wire and ran three wires to a 1/8 stereo jack from radio shack. Mounted the jack to the same bin cubby as the Honda jack but drilled the hole up at the very top back portion of the cubby hole, so that you can't even see the jack when sitting in the car. Whole thing cost only a few dollars and the jack placement is not taking up any of the cubby space. Very cool. Thanks OP.

I too like the idea of the panel mount female 1/8" stereo jack. I got one from RS, but want to confirm my thoughts on the wiring.
There are 5 "pins" on the RS jack. 1 - ground 2 - Left (input) 3 - Left (output) 4 - Right (output) 5 - Right (input) Basically in default mode (no male jack installed) pins 2 & 3 are shorted as are 4 & 5...this makes sense because in a stereo the signal would normally bypass the jack and the audio comes throught the ext. speakers, but if you plug in your headphones you separate the shorts and now the outputs are going to the headphones. This indicates to me that there are 2 ways to wire this. For ref. I'll refer to pin #'s on the RS jack and the randomly assigned colors ethlar gave to the 6 pin Honda aux conn. 1) pin 1 to black, pin 2 to green, pin 5 to red, & then connect the 2 browns on the aux conn. 2) pin 1 to black, pin 2 to green, pin 5 to red, pin 3 & pin 4 each to one of the browns Is this correct? If so is there an advantage to wiring #2? It seems cleaner to me since it only shorts the connection when the jack is plugged in and you might not have to hit the CD/AUX button to get back to the CD player if the jack isn't being used. Definitely correct me if I'm wrong (or overthinking this)....thanks! |

i found a 3 post version of the female 1/8" plug and wired it up just as you originally suggested. the 5 post version of the female 1/8" plug made it very hard to attach the wires unless you use 28 gauge wire or thinner (which i didn't even have). i may later switch to it though because i think the wiring on that version would be more clean.
thanks ethlar for posting this mod....in the end it was insane easy! it took maybe 45 seconds to get to that aux connector. i used slightly thicker 20 gauge wire and they fit nice and tight perfectly into the aux connector. i mounted my female jack in the removeable panel inside the top of the cubby with the power outlet. nobody will ever see the jack and that cubby has a rubber sheet on the bottom so my Dell DJ doesn't slide around at all in there! i can't wait to use it at night because the volume and power buttons on it side (which are perfectly accessible with it sitting in the cubby) light up blue just like the dash. |

Hi!
I recently got a `06 LX civic in Argentina. I`m trying to connect my ipod to the aux imput, but here is the funny thing. THERE IS NO CONNECTOR as shown here in the PIC. Probably the southamerica version of this car does not include it. So I am trying to get the actual pinout of the stereo itself. I mean the aux pinout from the rear connectors of the audio system. Can anyone help?? thanks! |

Like this write up... Good job gentlemen! I've seen the PDF for the Honda part install that accomplishes this and it appears you need to take the shift area panel off. True? I take it there's no fishing around to find the aux plug up under there? Thanks...

There is NO connector. You either have to purchase it or custom wire it. There allots ideas on aux/jack on this forum. Tried to do a key search on this forum |

Thanks again Civic4u.
Unfortunatly the southamerica version does not have the aux connector in the gear compartment. Know that getting the aux input from the rear of the radio sound a lot of work, but I dont see other way to get my ipod sounding in my car. do you?? Thanks! |

No AUX Connector
Hi,
Same here in Finland. NO AUX Connector in Civic 06 Sedan EX 6MT. I did not beleave the local car-dealer and looked in myself. I tooked some pictures too, No connector. I was also wondering to get line-output (from factory oem 6CD/MP3 player), but do i have to remove meter panel, center panel and then the player itself for both aux-in/line-out ? |
