If it happens to me I will place a 20 fuse like the instructions say.

I will let you know.
The wire you are using for power (the one that powered the stock horn) is connected to a 15amp fuse in the fusebox. That fuse also governs the brake lights, so if you use both at the same time the increased load could blow the fuse. If this happens then you need to install a relay with a 20 amp fuse to correct it, and use the stock horn power wire as the relay switch. A separate power wire would be needed to actually power the horn. This will continue to let the steering wheel control the horn, rather than a switch installed in the car somewhere.

I just finished installing my bad boy horn. I wired it up using the supplied relay switch. When I was finished, I honked the horn, and it worked! Then I tried to arm the alarm, and the doors would lock, but the lights didn't flash, and the horn didn't sound. I was confused. Then I reset the radio code and closed the hood. Now everything worked just as it should. Awesome horn! Thanks for your input Agnt004, much appreciated. Very big thanks to TigerDave for posting up this great DIY! This post really helped me out a lot.

No problem.

Where did you mount the relay? And did you hook up a power cable directly to the battery with an inline fuse, or did you connect the power to a 20 amp in the fusebox? I will need to do this if mine ever stops working.

Thumbs up

Hello Agnt004-

If you go to this thread> Atten: All Honda electrical gurus...
and read my post #15 that will explain how I hooked it up. For the relay placement, go to post #1 in this thread then go to the very bottom of post #1. Now move up 12 pictures. This picture should be of the mounting bolt, if you look to the right of the bolt, you will see a piece of metal with two circles cut out of it(one over the other). I mounted the relay in between the two circles with a small washer and a self-tapping screw. Hopefully, yours will be fine as-is, but if you do need to re-do it; this way should work out well ! Take care.

*This is in jest just so y'all know*
I resent the implication that the stocker horn is "wimpy." I've found it adds personality to my car in a particularly odd way. Maybe its just mine, but the switch is kinda funky in that sometimes the horn will sound odd notes if pressed at an odd angle. Don't get me wrong, i want to add a highway/country horn alongside the stocker as a separate system, but i like my roadrunner/Herbie hybrid horn.

THat may have been the hood open. Alot of cars now with security systems extend their protection beyond the passenger and luggage compartments to the engine bay.

Thanks for the info. :Thumb: I never had my fuse blow since I've never hit the horn and brakes at the same time. I'm going to install the relay though, because I'm sure it'll happen one day and I don't want to get rear ended.

I sold my Civic last month (regrettably too), but I never had any problems with the horn and I used it a few times per week.

I should add that with an air horn, there's a very slight delay (maybe 1/10 sec) between pressing the horn button and actually hearing the horn because the air compressor inside the horn has to spin up (or something to that effect).

Keep that in mind because when I went to lock the car, the factory "beep" is sometimes replaced with a faint "toot". Sometimes though I would hear nothing at all when I locked the car -- because the alarm "beep" is so brief. Hope this makes sense.

I get this too. No big deal though, if the lights flash, the car is locked.

Just did this install today. Took me longer to find all the wiring than it did doing the actual install.

Works like a charm. I can't wait for someone to cut me off now!!!

Thanks TigerDave

You're most welcome!

I know, you can't WAIT to start honking at people.

If you're ever feeling REALLY ballsy, install a train horn...

I don't want to horn at people, but this Badboy has saved me a lot of times.
People, especially women on phone now can't drive properly. I have to horn like crazy this morning when a woman was talking on her cell phone and making a turn into my passenger door. So pissed off.
