As I mentioned in the previous post, if anyone is interested in this Si (complete with the new horn!), check out:

The Accord has two a low and a hi tone. Let me know when you do the DIY for it, I'm interested. Incidentally at College Hills they sell them for $18 a piece. I'd be interested to see how a good splice job would look, or would you use a single horn?

I put a 20 amp(like it says in the manual that comes with it) inline fuse on my horn and one installed in a friends car. She has an lx btw, and my car is an si. However, I later realized it wasn't necessary when my friends horn stopped working soon after it was installed. It turns out the fuse for the horn in the car's fusebox blew, which is rated at 10 or 15 amps (I forget). She replaced the fuse multiple times and it keeps failing. The worst part is that the fuse controls both the horn and the rear tail lights, so when the horn stops working so do your brake lights. I will be fixing this soon by putting a relay in and directly getting power from the battery, not the original horn power wire. I will use the horn power wire to switch the relay on and off.

My friend was doing that and I told her not to as it may cause a problem with the fusebox or other car electronics. A 15 was put there for a reason. As far as putting a 10 amp fuse inline before the fusebox, it should work, but may blow a lot. My Si has not had any problems since I installed it, and the inline fuse is not in a reachable spot. If it goes (which it won't because the 15 in the fusebox would go first) I'd have to take off the bumper to replace it.

TigerDave,
Great DIY. I bought the same airhorn and your DIY was perfect. Only one thing. Since I have the FA5 (Sedan SI) there is no 10mm bolt in front of the front tires to take off. thanks. |
