haha you right dude! i thought they were all 1.5v. sure enough, when i checked mine today it was A23 and said 12v right on it. Props to a great DIY by the way, i think im going to put mine next to the shifter, where i have my interior lights switch

Thanks for the detailed write-up TigerDave. I did the DIY as you instructed and everything turned out as expected. In fact the door opener probably has a little better range now than it had running off of battery power.

Anyways, I combined your wiring instructions with the button placement suggested by b0yd07 and below are the results:

Thanks again.

It doesn't have to be 3M brand. They just happen to be one of the manufacturers. You're best off looking in an electronics store (like Radio Shack), but Home Depot should have it. I've bought them there before!

or u could go out and buy this. IMG_1357.JPG it doesnt require any hardwiring to your car and the battery last for over two yrs.

The part where you put the button in, isn't that where the VSA button is?

I am pretty sure that all garage door openers have a learn or training mode so that new remotes can be programed for it. This means that you shouldn't have to replace the circuit board when you move. Instead, put the opener in training mode and hit the button on your built in opener. That's what I had to do to program my girlfriend's lexus. The original opener still works too.

I used the "SEL" button's power supply, the blue right outside wire provides 12v
its the white connector right above the blank

good DIY btw
