Question DIY Auto windows thread *merged*

One thing that annoys me on my 04 Civic is that only the drivers side window is auto down and you have to hold the button down for the passenger window. I'm getting a MY2007 Si in the fall and I've read that the drivers side has an auto up/down button but it's regular button for the passenger window, just like my 04. Does anyone know what the part is that makes the difference? I'm wondering if it's some small cheap, easy to install part or if the whole mechanism is different. I know when I press the auto down button I feel a click and then it goes all the way down. If it's easy and cheap enough to do I'd love to have the passenger window auto up/down as well. Anyone have any ideas?

Someone else was talking about doing this mod. Search around for that thread.

On another note, I could be wrong, but I think there's a sensor (much like for the sunroof) on the driver's side so that if you use the auto up, you don't get your hand/head/whatever stuck in the window. I'm not sure if the other windows have that same sensor.

I've been hoping someone will figure out a relatively easy and cheap way to do this. I always put both windows down in my car so it makes the auto up/down on the driver's side pretty useless, same for the moonroof. Yay I can just hit the button and let go for two of them, but I have to hold it down for the third... kinda ruins the whole convenience factor. Toyota has one touch controls on both windows in the Scion tC, and Honda couldn't give it to us?

I was thinking about this when I was riding to work in my roomie's Z06. Very nice feature. WHY NOT????

OT: Why in the world does it lock the DRIVERS use of the passenger window when you lock it???

how about buying a driver side window controls... and then using "driverside" switch on the passenger side switch

i don't think it's anything too complicated ... but i could be wrong

I think the switch itself wouldn't be a problem. I think the wiring leading up to the switch might be different. Dawn asked a tech at the dealership she used to work at and he said it couldn't be done.

You could, theoretically, hook up the drivers switch to the passenger's without disconnecting the passenger switch from the passenger roll down button and this should do both windows...

It CAN be done. Anything can be modified, but there are several reasons why you wouldn't want to. If you could afford the time and money it probably takes to do this, then you more than likely wouldn't have bought a Civic.

Beware of following "Mirror-Guy" analogy:

Much like adding the Canadian heated turn signal mirrors on an American sedan. Sure, it could be done, but the cost and effort put forth is probably not worth it.

Edit: It appears the driver's door wiring harness is only about $30. Without any further investigation, the cost might actually not be that much. However, the driver's door has a regulator that will roll the window back down if it senses an intrusion (arm, finger, head). The passenger side doesn't. So, there's that small safety issue. Aside from that, I'd say the relay used for the auto up/down could be switched to the passenger side for just a little under $50 and a few (wo)man hours.

So, who's going to try this?

True, but do you want to roll down the passenger window every time you're alone and ordering drive-thru?

With how little I use a drive-thru, I'd probably find that less inconvenient than it is now without the auto up/down.

Then again, why am I complaining when the car already has power everything? It wasn't that long ago that I was driving a 2001 Hyundai Accent with power nothing.

I really want this feature. My old car, a 1997 Sunfire GT, had auto-down on the driver's door, but not auto-up. I was always very annoyed when getting on a highway or speeding up and having to hold my finger on the button in order to put the window up (I have only two hands, and one stays on the stick). The Si goes a step better and has auto-up, but still only for the driver's side.

I take it there's still no one who has done this modification?

use DEI module 530t. It will allow you to have auto up and down on ANY window, coupe or sedan. It will also allow you to controll your windows with your aftermarket alarm. I installed one on my 06 Si and my brothers 06 LX sedan but i dont remember the wire colors.

I got my 530T at a shop down in south florida called "Auto Toys and Tints" They may be able to ship them. the number is 305 247 5958. Ask for Henly, the owner, he should be able to help you out.

If someone buys me a copy of the HELM manual ill be sure to get the wire colors for you.

Has anyone tried to add a one-touch passenger window switch?

Just wondering if it is possible to get the same switch for the driver's side and install it in the passenger window switch(in the drivers side panel) so you can have 2 one touch windows?
