I prefer having the light for the engine start always on because when you turn the key to ON, the interior lights turn off, so if it's dark out, without it being lit, you'd have to poke around for the button
To each his own though. The ring around the hazard button I machined out of 6061 aluminum bar stock. After turning, I wet sanded and polished (minus the fingerprints ) The ring covers up the edges of the hole in the dash, and I also wanted it to have the same trim as the start button to help give it an OEM appearance.

The result was good, but the consequences of a screw-up are pretty high

![]() Theoretically, you could do it without the key, but you'd have to somehow disable the ECU from doing the code verification in the key and redo the wiring to bypass the ignition cylinder. In any case, if you did that, anybody could get in your car and start the engine, sans key

Cut yellow ignition wire = button start, no key start
Splice yellow ignition wire = button start and key start I think it would be fairly difficult to burn the button if you're using a 30A relay, and provided you're using the OEM S2K start button and not a replica. I don't like the idea of splicing the ignition wire because it seems to me that if you want to keep the key start, then why add a button in the first place? Go all the way or don't go at all

also i thought to just put like a cut off switch to the key ign.....you could leave it off but just in case the push start does fail....then u could just flip the switch and then the key works again....this is possible right??? btw i got the idea from my old stereo system i had a switch that went between the battery and the amp so everytime i got next to a cop i would just flip the switch and no bass...then when he left flip it back and bass comes back on.....same concept i think |
