So are you saying you crank the engine over without fuel and it just kinda limps over to the side of the road?

im doing this at 1230 when class ends .... what a snooze... oh n ur car wont necessarily stall ...
u know when u barely turn it on with a cold ingine the rpm jumps and it keeps the engine going without anygas ... i was ******* around with it and it will move it at a moderate speed in first gear without gas on a cold start .... trust
i did it on an open road because i parked on the side of my house just to test it out the next day .... dont try it in ur d riveway tho cuz it picks up fast

Are you really that much of a hardass? The Mustang discussion and video were relevant to the topic, to show what would happen if you started the guy in gear.

Yes, I'm that much of a hardass. In fact, I'm the hardest of all the hardasses out there.

Sure, you can start ANY car in gear and have that happen. That doesn't mean that "mustangs suck" and that we need half a dozen posts debating the finer points of why "mustangs suck" in a thread showing how to jumper your clutch.. kinda off topic.

Thanks for asking though!

I don't believe I said that Mustangs suck. Someone else may have but I did not. A person asked what would happen if you started your car while in gear. A slight debate occured over whether the car would just stall out or if it would move forward. The posting of the video was to show that it was definitely possibly for a car to move forward while started in gear.

The OP of this thread giving out completely erroneous, potentially dangerous information.

well sure but it spawned a whole mustang bitching session..

I have accidentally started my car in gear with this mod and it did not drive away. I normally park in neutral and someone had left it in 1st. The car lurched a little but nothing quite like the vid that was posted up. The engine does not want to turn over nearly as ready with such a load on it. It was very obvious what happened and easily avoided. Test it yourself if you're so concerned about this being a hazard.

In that vid, it's not a good example of this thread's mod either. You think the guy had bypassed the clutch in his brand new car before he let his kid sit in it? No, the guy probably just told the kid to depress the clutch to start it, had it in gear and the kid dumped the clutch.

I dunno man.. seems like a big deal about nothing. Those that undertake a mod to their car should know exactly what they are doing and this completely falls under generic common sense.

Maybe the bitching session was up here and deleted before I got a chance to see it. I know one person made a negative comment about Mustangs and I tried to get back on topic and just said something like "even though I don't care for Mustangs, they are still pretty badass performance-wise" and told the guy the video was just to show it was possible.

I've seen people that were very new at driving manual start a car with the clutch half depressed before and take off a little bit. They were able to stall the car out when they panicked and just stomped the brakes with no clutch. It really doesn't take much.

I wasn't trying to say the Mustang owner had done this mod. I was just trying to explain what could happen if you start your car in gear. I think the kid probably was too short to push the pedal in all of the way and sit in the seat. Probably got down as far as could to start the car and when he tried to slide back up into the seat, he rolled or dumped the clutch and the car drove away. He was too short to reach the brake pedal, so the back of the garage became his brakes. Essentially, starting your car in gear with the clutch safety bypassed would be like dumping the clutch instantly when you start the car.

I completely agree. However, their are young impressionable kids on internet forums that take what people say as fact. Not to pick on rev, but if a kid sees her (the one that did the mod) say that you can start the car in gear with no concequence, the kid's gullible young mind might take it as fact.

The topic itself doesn't concern me a great deal anyway. I just feel that you, as a mod, over stepped your boundaries by deleting my posts. They were there for educational purposes only. Just because some turds came in and made it about how much the Mustangs "suck" doesn't mean you have to delete the only thing that could keep some idiot from not worrying about starting their car in gear.

LOL i always park my cars in first after i drive. I drove my friends car and he almost lurched into a M3 when he started it.

This mod should NOT be tried unless u seriously know what you're doing.

btw my car doesn't need the clutch to start :S

Neat mod. Can't do it to my Si though. My father occasionally moves my car out of and back into the garage. He has a tendency to leave the car in gear.

... I need a real job so I can move the hell out.
