we've got the clutch safety switch here in Japan too, all cars have to have it. I think all of my cars in Italy had to have the clutch in as well.

Not to be a debbie downer but............

I think its ridiculous that the moderators can remove posts about 'getting rid of the seatbelt chime' but people get rid of one of the most important safety features on these cars and its just completely fine. I understand it is a cheap mod and is easy, but what happens the one time someone moves your car for whatever reason and puts it into a garage door, parking block, gas pump, PERSON etc etc etc. And say you DO have remote start and the car is left in gear. Then you have a 2700pound run away car. Regardless of how well you know the car is in gear, the safety switch is a critical part of idiot-proofing a manual transmission car.

Don't think im a ****, just wanted to throw it out there!

Actually, if someone were to try to start a car with a jumpered clutch in gear, it wouldn't drive itself away. It would just stall.

it went, clutch switch (the yellow thing) --> two wires --> another switch (toggle) mounted wherever i wanted to --> hook up wires

so now its like a "kill switch"

This works on the R18 no problem, everything is the same place as the SI, you need a skinny paperclip thou

i'm quite a bit older and perhaps wiser than most on this site. some of you see this as a 'safety hazzard'. thats fine. i'm not one to 'goof' on something as serious as operation of a motor vehicle. i remember the day when cars did not have this clutch switch. there were things taught in my drivers ed that doesn't apply anymore because of these switches. but, in a time of need or crisis, having this mod can help!

dead battery? if you have a couple of people you can push start the car. push it with clutch in, pop the clutch (2nd gear) and varoom you going....hopefully

car stalls and doesnt start for some reason like on a friggin train track? easy, keep in gear and turn the key. (1st gear)

you may be laughing but i was actually taught this in high school...haha

If remote starter for manual trans is installed properly, this type of bypass is not required.

I've been installing remote starters for 8 years, and have a pretty good handle on it.

What happens when someone else drives your car and leaves it in gear with no e-brake? When you remote start it, the car WILL move far enough to hurt something or someone. Guess who's paying those medical bills?

If you really insist on being able to start the car without the clutch, install a momentary push-button on the dash somewhere that shorts those two wires together.

Paperclips belong on your desk, not your car's circuitry.

Reason why you let no-one drive your car and if someone does CHECK to make sure its in neutral or has the entire world become that lazy.

The cool thing about driving a manual is that you need someone pushing the gas pedal when it's in gear. Otherwise it stalls. Unless you happen to own this:

Otherwise . . . a car left in neutral without the ebrake is quite dangerous! Jumpered clutch or not. Do NOT try it at home. Or on the road. Or at all, plz.

By the way, if the paper clip really freaks you out, you can bypass the circuit by soldering.

that's not completely 100% true

every morning when i back out my spot.. i just let off the clutch til it grabs and hold and it goes as if it was an automatic in reverse with no throttle input. this is also while going up a slight incline

same thing if i decided to back in.. i just put it in first and let off til it grabs and it goes as if it was an auto

and for some reason it won't let me edit.. but the point was that the car can still jump forward before it stalls

but like i've said before.. i don't think bypassing the clutch switch is a big deal.. it just makes it prone to idiot mistakes
