You people are morons. You don't think that circuit is in place for a reason? This is especially the case for remote start! If the person installing your remote starter doesn't know how to set it up to properly interface with your clutch, take your keys out of his hand, smack the $hit out of him for calling himself a professional, and drive away. I've been installing remote starters for 8 years, and have a pretty good handle on it.
What happens when someone else drives your car and leaves it in gear with no e-brake? When you remote start it, the car WILL move far enough to hurt something or someone. Guess who's paying those medical bills? If you really insist on being able to start the car without the clutch, install a momentary push-button on the dash somewhere that shorts those two wires together. Paperclips belong on your desk, not your car's circuitry. |

Why not? What they're doing is just plain ignorant, and I want the people reading this to see that. But hey, if it wasn't for the type of people that think a paperclip is an appropriate piece of installation hardware, my shop wouldn't have CONSTANT easy $65/hr electrical troubleshooting business coming in. Morons.

A quality remote start that has a manual transmission mode will make sure that the car is not in gear before remote starting. It does this by requiring that the user performs a sequence of steps before exiting the car. Usually you must come to a stop, have the clutch and brake engaged, pull the e-brake, release the clutch, release the brake, press remote start button on remote, take key out (car will stay running), get out of the car, shut the door (car turns off by iteself). This tells you it's ready for RS. Sound complicated, but if you think about it, it's a pretty standard way of doing things.
So even if you're used to parking in gear, you could use this when you're going to want to remote start it and be perfectly safe. By the way, this installation uses NO paperclips. |

Who parks their car in neutral without an ebrake? *warning! If you do, do not jumper your clutch!* I admit, there are more appropriate tools than a paperclip for the job. But, hey. Why not take the easy way out to bypass yet another silly annoyance mandated solely by the American audio industry.

Shrug. MS3s don't have any silly circuits in Japan, for example. I see it as one of those silly precautions similar to our TPMS sensors . . . protecting us from ourselves.
![]() Oh. and, yea, Cr8tive_leo. "US" and "government" would probably have been more appropriate words.

i don't have a problem with the whole paperclip thing.. but if you happen to leave your car in gear and for some reason not pull the parking brake... your car WILL jolt forward before stalling out when you start it.
personally.. i would only be concerned if someone else was gonna be driving my car
