DIY: small battery mount

odyssey pc-680 just under $100 shipped

23.5lbs oem battery with black battery plastic
11.5 lbs odyssey battery

12lbs saved

( i used my scale at home... not very acurate but i weighed both batteries on the same scale. According to some web sites they say the pc-680 is 15.4lbs)

Remove battery and plastic battery cover. Cover positive terminal with plastic bag or tape. (This is just to be on the safe side.)

Drill hole for passenger side mounting bar

cut one mounting bar short like this....
this will allow you to fit it inside the drivers side hole.

Put something on the passenger side mounting bar it doesnt fall through the hole

Cut a hole on the other side of the plastic on your posative terminal... this will bend the wires in the "correct direction." I used the spare EP3 one that i had laying around. In the picture bellow you can see what i mean by the "correct direction"

Fabricate a tie down bar with a piece of aluminum

That is a lot of weight taken off. Good job.

Is there any negative effect of having a battery that small?

i think you have something like 8 chances to start the car... if it doesnt start the first 8 times (example: you stall or the starter is going bad) you will kill the battery.

new cars like ours usually start the first time though

you also cant used the accessories for too long without charging the battery.

iv'e put my windows up and down at least 20 times with out killing the battery... thats a lot IMO

Nice BUMP for you...

*note, if you have subs/amps, this mod should NOT be on your *to do* list.

Hey man. great diy. I personally am in the market for a different battery once mine kicks the bucket. I was wondering if anyone has experience with braille batteries? Braille B14115 Carbon Fiber Lightweight Battery - Braille Carbon Fiber Batteries - Braille LLC

Great write up! I also have an Odyssey battery and it's great so far. I just have to make a battery tie down like yours.

I have the same battery but I had relocated it to the trunk, also about the brailles they don't have as much cranking power as the odessys, still good batteries
