So can anyone tell me about mine now? It just turned a month old, it's an 07/nav. There's no "J" so does it mean it was american built? What's the difference?

Even better, it was built in Aliston, Ontario!! Canadian car!! w00p w00p

Just so people know.....

if VIN starts with 1 = America
2 = Canada
5 = Mexico
J = Japan

I've seen civics with 1's 2's and J's most of them are built in Canada though so your VIN will start with 2.

Cheers.

4 can also mean America and 3 can also mean Mexico, and just to let you know your color is not indicated anywhere in your vin seeing as how if you decided to change the color it would be useless. Also the 10th digit is the year and the last seven are the production number for that year, so if your last seven are something like 00010 then you are very lucky. Also dealer intalled options like the HFP hit do not reflect in the vin.

Thats the main reason why alot of civics have quality problems/issues is because it's built in Canada!!

folks, the chassis code is only 5 numbers long!

so for example if your VIN is:

2HGFG21567H704982

we'll break it down.
2HG FG215 6 7 H 704982

2HG = Assembled in Canada, Honda
FG215 = Civic Si Coupe
6= Check Digit
7 = 2007 Model Year
H = Canadian Plant (Alliston)
704982 = Serial #

So of the original chart, this is the actual chassis info:

FG112 - Civic DX Coupe - Manual
FG122 - Civic DX Coupe - Automatic
FG113 - Civic Coupe DX-G - Manual
FG123 - Civic Coupe DX-G - Automatic
FG116 - Civic Coupe LX - Manual
FG126 - Civic Coupe LX - Automatic
FG118 - Civic Coupe EX - Manual
FG128 - Civic Coupe EX - Automatic
FG215 - Civic Coupe Si - Manual
FA152 - Civic Sedan DX - Manual
FA162- Civic Sedan DX - Automatic
FA153 - Civic Sedan DX-G - Manual
FA163 - Civic Sedan DX-G - Automatic
FA155 - Civic Sedan LX - Manual
FA165 - Civic Sedan LX - Automatic
FA158 - Civic Sedan EX - Manual
FA168 - Civic Sedan EX - Automatic
FA362 - Civic Hybrid - CVT

not in this list:
FA555 - Civic Si Sedan - Manual

There is no indicator within the VIN number that dictates "navi"/hpt etc.

the model code does dictate this:
FA5558JYW - Si Sedan Base
FA5558KYW - Si Sedan Navi

J means it was built in Japan.

FD means it's a JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) style Civic.

FD1= standard JDM R18A1 equipped civic

FD2= Type-R JDM K20A equipped civic

You have an FD1. So you have a standard (non Type-R) civic with a 1.8L 140hp engine.

I think they are compatible. Like in the US the FG1 and FG2 grilles are compatible.
