Oh great, another 'si is better, no r18 is!' 'si!' 'r18!'

As someone who's switched from an lx to an si, yes I found the little r18 motor plenty fast enough on everyday traffic. Did I need the si? In terms of speed, no. In terms of my driving enjoyment, yes.

Now, granted, everyone has differing views of 'driving fun.' Some like SUVs, some like buicks, some like a high revving engine that does a jekyll and hyde switch at 6k rpms. No r18 has that switch, nor did it have the more weighted steering and tauter suspension.

I don't care if honda's Si isn't that much faster than their normal civic, because I don't launch at every stoplight. To me (and this is subjective) driving an Si is more fun. Might be different for other people. Stop stereotyping with 'r18s are for old ladies' and 'all Si drivers think they're the fastest beast on earth.'

R18 to the New Civic's are like the D16 to the Old Civic's.

Si's are faster by a pinch but I never said anything about one being better than the other. I would totally rock an R18. I love to open my hood and see a K20 engine though.

The only thing i see wrong with the non-Si's are the interior color selection. Come on Honda, TW in Ivory only?!

But on the way home from the gym on a back country road I got 43mpgs. And since ownership I have never gotten less than 32mpgs on each and every tank of fuel.

When gas prices hit 5.00/gallon I will be laughing at almost every car on the road other than the hybirds.
No, it is that simple, 3.5 liter SOHC motor 244 hp @ 5750 rpm/240 ft-lbs. @ 5000 rpm. It has more power and gets it sooner, and even weighing in at more than 2 tons, it has a better weight to power ratio than the Civic.
Unless if the gearing on the Odyssey is completely set for economy (making it non-drivable), the Odyssey 5A vs Civic 5A are comparable.
If you take both cars with their standard A/S crap tires, the Odyssey will win.

I'm really not trying to attack the R18, as you say, it's a great little car with great mpg (certainly way better than an odyssey). All I'm saying is it is slower than a minivan, take it how wish... it's fact.

Guys we are all a big honda family. thats why we are here on 8th.
We are not here to argue.
I have a 07 lx auto, and a 95 honda accord 5spd.
The new civic is awsome. but its a cruzmobile.
THe SI is better HANDS DOWN. people who argue about it are stupid.
its more expensive its a FREAKIN SI it has to be better and even though i never drove in one i know its better in everythign compared to stock civic PErformance wise,

Just be happy with what you got.
i know i am and i know that since i will keep my 07 lx for a long time i will get some si cosmetics to make it look liek the beastly SI.

The Si is like totally different beast. It is not the 0-60 time. Its the power band, sound, and engine behavior that differentiates it. It depends on your tastes in cars which one is better.

yup its a slow car but i noticed it has good acceleration compared to many others, manual transmission that is, but the SI is a whole different story

For daily drive the R18 is good enough. But when you want to have some fun like circuit racing, drag, etc. You'll feel that the R18 is not fast enough.

I got the R18 after driving my friends lancer, mazda 3,corolla and nissa tida ..

and i have to tell .. the R18 has the fastest and smoothest drive ..

so if you compare it to cars from its class..its the fastest .

lets compare the Si to a GTi for example ? then the Si is Slow as hell !!!

....

roflmao are you freaking SERIOUS?! the mazda 3 will dust your car.. a manual mz3 will dust a manual r18 hands down more torque and similar if not more power.

and lancer? your talking about the old one right? a lancer ralliart will make you eat your words.. more power and more torque by FAR. an auto ralliart will dust a manual r18. and this isnt even talking about the new lancer, which is now as fast as a wrx.. say bye bye to your little r18.. its in the same class as a yaris, ,fit corolla, and minivans in terms of speed.

btw a gti has approx same amount of power as a si stock but it has much more torque due to its turbo.. is it MUCH faster? no it still runs ~14 on the 1/4.. does it feel much faster? yes. now give the SI i/h/e/r and thats a race..

yeah torque wins races and hp sells cars. the si only has 10 more torque at 1k rpm higher than the r18. Its fun only because it has that manual transmission.

That was definitely not part of it, but it's still very boring. Before I got the SI, my parents tried baiting me into getting another R18 by offering to pay for the whole thing if I got that instead of the SI. Granted it was tempting, so I took out a taffy white manual coupe. MUCH better, but it still lacked any real fun to it.
