Tips.Net: What is a Healthy Debt Ratio?
yes, debt-to-income ratio is very significant. healthy debt, IMO, is when a person has a debt that they can pay off in an instant, but let it ride out for the sake of building up their credit score. i'll purposely take out a loan for the sake of having healthy debt and keep it for at least a year before i fully pay it off, or until they piss me off by increasing my interest rates lol.

Yeah I see where you are coming from, but I have a (somewhat irrational) fear of being in debt, which is the main reason I didn't want to finance a car. My mom is an economics professor and she tries in vain to convince me that some debt is healthy lol.

I just read a couple pages but what I can deduce is that all SI owners hate R18 and all R18 owners hate SI owners?

This how war starts.

yeah it's sad IMO that whenever you go to buy a car or house or anything significant, you are defined by a 3 digit number (hence ur credit score). and by all means, debt is serious and scary matter and people should not take it so lightly, so your fear of it is definitely understandable.

No some Si owners get pissed when you bring up fuel economy and price as pros for the R18. And no most R18 owners don't hate Si owners, most just wish they had the Si. But no we don't hate each other.

We're not even going to tell Honda Element owners to go take a shower now?

Ah well, at least I still got

Hmmmm... This thread seems like it was made for people like me. Just wanted to throw something in:

My favorite car that ive ever owned was a 1994 Civic Si (bone stock) that i got in 99 when i graduated. put over 160k on it. I never took it to a 1/4 mile, but I was able to get a 10.1 in the 1/8th. From what i have seen, the 8th Gen R18 cars (M/T) can pull off around the same times in the 1/8th... It may 'slow' compared to the new Si, but it is just as quick as the older Si, a car loved by many including myself.

I have a 08 EX Sedan (M/T of course) and I traded in my 04' turbo Mazdaspeed Miata in for it (had to get carrying space for work). I was originally looking at a Si, but after driving the EX, discovered it was enough. One of the things I discovered while owning the Mazdaspeed was that the saying "its better to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow" is really true. Living in Atlanta, I RARELY EVER got a chance to drive the Miata to its FULL potential. Driving the EX, I can rev it out and push it a little closer to its potential whenever i want, something that would have been really stupid in the Mazdaspeed.

But, each person has something different they are looking for in car... as for me, the R18 provides enough power; its just up to me to really DRIVE it and get the most out of it, something that I doubt most people who own more powerful cars do.

Not stepping on toes, just stating my opinion. :-)

No baby seal beatings, but we are going to put a bunch of land-mines in the school playgrounds of third world countries , is that evil enough for you?

I think the 8th gen manual R18 is almost dead even with the '99 Si, if not slightly faster. An intake and exhaust widen the gap.

if the 99/00 Si and the r18 were both stock, the 99/00 Si would win b/c it's way lighter and has more power. those b-series engines have ALOT of potential.

Yeah you're right, I looked it up and the 99/00 si does 0-60 in 7.2 seconds and the 06-08 R18 manual does 0-60 in 7.7. But either way they are still pretty close.
