Summer tires a hazard in SoCal?

lol so an internet sales rep calls me today and to inquire about the si I'm trying to buy (which I have decided not to, until the 09s come out). So he asks me what tires I wanted on the car. I told him I wanted the summer tires on there. So he proceeds to tell me that summer tires are not recommended in Southern California. He asked me, "Do you know what they are?" I told him, yea, better performance tires and he says yeah, well we don't recommend them because they can be a hazard in southern california. I mean, he should have just told me that the Si he has in stock has no summer tires on it...

Well, after that I told him that I was going to wait for the 09 models to come out, just in case they added a new, nifty little feature. Well he said that nothing is changing. I told him about the talk on these forums about some minor but interesting possibilities and he said he would talk to someone in the department because he's kind of new and doesn't know. So, he's supposed to call me back sometime today.

Well, I've lived in SoCal my whole life and I've never bought all-seaon tires, ever. I always rock summer or performance tires and its all gravy, baby!

Alot of people are naive.

The guy did not have one with summer tires so he wanted to make a bs excuse to sell you one with all seasons. Same goes for the 09 MMC. He may know or most likely may not know of any changes, but he made a blanket statement to force you to believe that what he had to offer is the only thing available for a while so you'd buy it.

Having come from all-seasons and making the switch to summers, I will NEVER EVER go back by choice.

What a liar. Summer tires are only not recommended if you get downpours all the time and if you can get surprised with a snowstorm before it's time to switch over to all seasons.

But like others said, the guy was lying to try and sell you the unit he had in stock. Dealers will make up ALLLLLLL sorts of crap to sell you what they have, and make what they have sound better than whatever else you may be considering.

ROFL Socal Winter is more summery than many northern places summer.

did you ask him, where exactly, in the US would you recommend Summer tires, during Summer? Hawaii?

Lol, the sad thing is, on the summer tires I've gotten, they have a better wet rating then the all-season michelin craps that came factory with the car.......

Run, don't walk, to another salesperson/dealership.

It's freezing temps usually, where the summer tire isn't good. Wet rating can be good on a summer tire.
