My local dealer said the credit score requirement is 720 for this special, so if you've got crappy credit, you're out of luck.

Actually you're not out of luck, they just bracket it a little bit higher. Mine was a hair under 700 and got 4% last week when I bought my SI. paid 21200. I could have done a little better but honestly I need to get out of my truck because it was costing me $450 a month in gas. I chose not to bargain too much on the car's price because the edmunds TMV wasn't much lower, and they were throwing in UV tint, too. I instead bargained like a madman to get a good trade in on my truck and actually got about $800 more than I was hoping for! And in texas, if you trade in a vehicle, you only pay tax on the difference in price, so I saved $1100 there. My payments ended up going down $50 a month from my truck, because that was the same ammount but at a higher % rate.

I negotiated an OTD price of 23650 (or 22000 w/o tax, tag, title but includes destination) on an si sedan today, but with a credit score of 781, they would not budge on giving me the 1.9% and insisted that I only qualified for the 3.9%, they tried to state that I did not have enough history or some BS about having 3 trades with 36months each. I'm trying to decide if I should cosign with the rents or just accept the 3.9%, sleeping on it tonight.

methinks my price was too good? hence they're trying to make it up

so anyone else here get that bullshit excuse when financing? I really don't want to "settle", since they're trying to tell me 500 extra finance charges are nothing. $500 is 500 dollars and I'm sticking to it.

Not only there is low interest rates, there is also no dealer incentive for the cars. My dad just got a 2008 Honda odyssey EX-L for $26,900 and with tax, title, dest etc it comes to OTD $29,100.
Example- The msrp for the EX-L odyssey is $32,880 and the invoice is $29,566 for my area. From the $29,566, there is a $2000 dealer incentive so you subtract $2000 which becomes $27,566. Once you get the OTD price with 27,566 start negotiating. (Sales people get a profit of $880 of that price).
