Accord Sales in a slump

I asked for a quote from the internet sales department of a local dealer. Here is what he wrote:

"Wondering if you might be interested in the Accord LX 4door auto because I'm able to offer you a great deal on the Accord's
We are having a clearance sale on all new 06 Honda Accords due to too many in stock."

--and--

"Dear Mario,
Special Honda Accord Special!!!!
I can offer you the Honda Accord LX 4door auto for $17,788 * This price includes a full tank of fuel, and a professional, caring, hassle-free delivery."

Accord LX for the same MSRP as a Civic LX, crazy.

I got my civic sedan EX auto for $17,988. If I had been offered an Accord LX for essentially the same price, I would have had to think long and hard about that decision.

posted about this a little awhile ago. You can get a v6 accord 6spd for cheaper then you can get the SI in some places. I think it's because accord is changing their design and the civics are selling so well.

Civic or Accord?

I have a hard decision to make.
Civic LX AT for $17,067 + tax and lic.
or
Accord LX AT for $17,788 + tax, lic, and destination charge

What should I do?

depends on what you are looking for. Me personally I went with an LX coupe because I wanted the better gas mileage. If gas mileage isn't your biggest concern I'd say go with the accord. More room and space than the civic.

Insurance costs are something to think about too.

If it were me, then I'd decide based on my own personal situation. Family? Kids? Need space? Gas mileage not as much of a concern? Then Accord.

No family? Need higher gas mileage? Tighter budget? Then Civic.

If you can get the civic EX sedan auto for $700 more and can afford it, I'd go that way just for the better brakes, wheels and stereo. I can do without the moonroof, but that comes with the package as well.

Definitely call your insurer to see what their rates are for insuring the Civic versus Accord. I was comparing an Accord coupe versus the Civic sedan. The accord coupe would have been a few hundred bucks more per year to insure with my company. But that was the accord coupe, not the sedan, that I was looking at.

Accord sales are normally in a slump around this time. The redesign is right around the corner. No big deal. You should buy what fits your budget as well as your lifestyle. And don't buy blindly. Go test drive the car a few times to see if you even like it. Sure you like the way the deal sounds. But too many people (myself included) buy cars without ever having test driven it extensively to get a real feel for it.

I did that with my Legend and I vowed to never do it again. I've test driven damn near every compact car that's come out in the past year and a half-to-two years. I'll never buy another mid/full-size vehicle again.

Isn't this the last year for the current Accord design? I've never been all that enamoured with the way the Accord looks.

i honestly wouldn't mind getting an accord over the civic. The extra power/room is well worth it, especially if the price is getting cut. I wish i knew sooner.

I noticed the fire sale on the Accords when I picked up my gg ex coupe Friday. To me its a no brainer. Do I want something sporty and efficent or do I want to drive in a bath tub.

you know what your right. because since theyre delaying so much on my SI they keep asking me if i want an accord and they can give me great prices for it and many of them much lesser than the civics. since im spending a hefty amount, i want to make a choice that 5 years from now i wouldnt be dissapointed. This is why choose what you really want and dont let those dealerships get to your head. theyll tell you almost anything to get those cars out of there. just my 0.02 cents

They've sweetened the deal

The deal now is:
Accord LX SE Sedan AT= $19,800 OTD
vs
Civic LX AT Sedan (still waiting for arrival) = $18,627 OTD

What should I do now?

Only $1200 more to get into an Accord, I would definitly go with that. But thats just my preference. Again its all in what your taste is.

I'd say accord. My first choice for a car was a used (current gen) V6 accord coupe, but I couldn't get a good deal last december but I got a pretty good deal on my 06 manual ex coupe (18k). It's all preference, but if I had the choice, i'd most likely get the accord if the price is so low. That's just me though. If it were between civic ex sedan and lx accord, i'd probably choose the civic in that case.

id get the accord, its more refined.

but that accord coupe with the v6 and 6 speed
that would be a tough decision between an si and that.

Accord V6 6mt is almost as fast as a g35 stock. If it was the price of an Si....i'd jump on that shit.

if you get an accord now you might regret it coz they totally redisigned it for 2008 and will be available next year.

they are just tryn to clear their stocks of 06-07 models in favor of the 08 model that's why they are giving it like a price of a civic.
