alarm not included?

I just bought a silver 2008 civic auto EX-L w/Navi but I some questions.

When you guys negotiated with your car salesman when buying your honda, and then agreed to the final price, during the paperwork, did ur business finance guy say that alarm does not come with the car and say he had to add $500 to the price to activate the alarm? They said something about liability issues or something. Is that how it normally is? I thought it was kinda BS that they did that.

Also, i got it for 22300 OTD with a 8 percent sales tax and the alarm and 4.5% financing. Was this an ok deal?

Finally, theres a small deep, black, pen tip sized chip that is on the top of the passenger door near the window. I pointed it out to the guy after doing about 80 percent of the paperwork and he said he'll fix it. Are they going to repaint the whole door or what? If they are, wouldnt it go on the car record that it was repainted?

I'm not sure on prices for EX's, but that doesn't sound like a very good deal to me. Especially with a chip out of the paint already.

As for the original question, the alarm is an option, so it doesn't surprise me that he charged you for it. I wouldn't trust the factory alarm at all if I were you. If someone wants to steal your car, factory alarms are really simple to bypass.

**edit**actually my parents paid 22300 OTD and 4.5% financing. I misheard wrong. And as for the alarm, supposedly its an option that we forgot to put in or something.
For the paint could i just use touch up paint? Will it be waterproof and seal the hole it the clearcoat?

Make sure they do a really good job on that paint chip. A few years back when I bought a 2003 accord, it had a small scratch and paint chip, they said they would take care of it. I went back the next day to get it done...HORRIBLE job on fixing it. They kept dicking my around about it and said they would take the car in for painting. but i never went back cuz they were a bunch of a-holes. So make sure its done right!

so the alarm for sure is standard equipment? I mean i did argue that the alarm should be included in the sale price... but he gave me some explanation about liability issues of having the alarm activated during shipping or something like that. It sounded convincing enough and we were almost done with paperwork so..

i think you got ripped-off honestly. I got my brand new 07 Si w/ navi for 22.5 OTD w/ only 2.2 miles on it.

and alarm? i thought the ex came with standard keyless entry? not sure about an alarm....

and as far as the paint, they'll probably just take some touch up paint and go from there. they would not take the time/money/effort/etc. to paint an entire door, esp. for a car they've already sold.

Alarms are standard on all vehicles. There's no way to activate it or deactivate it when you feel like it.

yeah they brought out like this handheld thing that hooked up to the car and "activated" the alarm. i dont remember much about the alarm deal because my parents were dealing with the salesmen were speaking in korean which i dont know well. I just remember them saying the alarm has a shock sensor or something like that.

When its locked, a red light blinks in the dash and a bright blue led light blinks to the left of the steering wheel.

FYI edmunds TMV for my car is 22000 without tax etc.. i think the car prices in So Cal are higher than most places. I dont think paying around invoice is being ripped off.

**edit** alright just did some research this is what we paid 600 extra for:
- Electric Shock Sensor
- Ignition Triggered Auto Lock / Unlock
- Starter Disable on Shock Violation
- $2,000 One Year Deductible Reimbursement Guarantee
- 3 Year Contents (Air Bag, Radio, Rims, Battery) and Personal Effects, $500 Deductible Reimbursement Guarantee

so yeah they ripped us off with the alarm

Well that shock sensor cost like 50 and takes minutes to install.

I know about the alarm your talking about theyscrewed me over with that also. Is it the the National Security 3000? If it is all they do is add a fuse to the alarm and thats it. I found this out because I know one of the workers who works there and he told me I just got ripped because its the same alarm everyone else gets hence we have the same exact key to turn it on and off.

So we pretty must got screwed but the good thing is on mine if someone ends up stealing anything from my car I get 500 bucks back.

hmm Honda financing is at 0.9% here in Canada.. i guess it;s to match the USD dollar which is almost at par.. so anything in the states is cheaper anyway ; >

I think it's more than a fuse though. They said they take out the sensor module which is installed by the dealer for extra lot protection underneath the dash if you dont pay 600 bucks.

For the people with an EX, without this upgraded alarm, does a blue led blink on the left of the steering wheel, as well as a red light on the dash and on the corner of the nav? also when i press lock Or unlock on my key once it chirps/honks.

my friend didn't get the alarm package thingy on his rsx-s but when you push lock twice, it beeps. but if you hit the car, nothing happens

i think it only goes off if you open the door when it's lock...

you would have to hit way harder than that and break glass or something for the sensors to go off
