Vtec in Cruise mode?
I was in 3rd gear around 3000 rpm. Had an itch on the bottom of my right foot. I turn on cruise control real quick while I give a quick scratch.
Traffic was catching up to me and I was still struggling to scratch that itch. So I hit the accelerate button up to 4000rpm then to 5000rpm. I was thinking... hmm this can't be healthy for the engine. Still struggling to scratch that itch and traffic was on my butt. Eventually I just held the accelerate button all the way to vtec. Felt a slight push when I cross over 5800rpm. People pass by anyway looking at me all weird. I guess because my exhaust was roaring but I was hardly going anywhere. Well anyhow that is my random story. I'm wondering if I'm the first to vtec in cruise mode? Last edited by DTNguyen107; 04-26-2008 at 06:34 PM. |

its not good for the engine if u just let it stay in vtec range. Like if u just set it to stay at 6500 rpms...not good. Plus it will kill gass. Just shift man! lol As soon as u hit the clutch while on cruise, it turns off anyway.

The first video I saw on the Civic Si was over at Temple of Vtec. He ran that Si all day at the Dragon, keeping it in the vtec range. |

![]() Our engines are designed to be abused. Although, cruising in Vtec is probably a bad idea on principal alone. |

I wouldnt say designed to be abused but built strong, to handle track and everyday conditions.

Do you have a K20 or R18? I ask because the K20 has a set vtec switch point and the R18 doesn't. If it's a K20 than you can hit vtec in cruise but if it's an R18 you probably can't because the R18's vtec switch is based on engine load not rpm, so you could redline it under low load (like in cruise) and not have it switch into vtec. (I saw this in the motor bolt on forum)

The R18A and the K20 have two differently different V-tec modes. R18A's is engaged for the lower RPM "economy" driving mode while the K20 is the more typical "power, high RPM" mode.

err, um you could probably drive at 7500RPM all day and not do any major damage, its just that your engine would need rebuilding every year.
also you cant vtec in cruise control. i dont know how you did it, but ive tried before. increasing the speed with the steering wheel button, you will not be able to set the cruise to past 5000 rpm or so. the speed will just come down. Last edited by e60.deluxe; 04-27-2008 at 09:27 PM. |
