Just got my first ticket!!

It had to happen sooner or later. I was driving on the highway at 2am in the morning with a couple of friends doing close to 100and I thought I almost free when I got on the off ramp but just when I exited the lights came on. The cop was nice enough to put me down at 90 on a 65 and decided not to write me up for not signaling while lane changing. I'm 18 and this is my first ticket and I don't know what to do. How much will the ticket approximately be and do I have to take any driving classes? Will I get any points towards my license and how will my insurance be affected? What should I say or do when I show up in court? Sorry if that's a lot of questions but I'm just a little freaked out because this has never happened to me before. Thanks in advance!

man up and pay it.

there's no reason to ever be going 100 on a public road, especially with others in the car

I was home over my spring break going to my girlfriends house. Merged onto the highway and I just gun it sometimes on the on-ramps for the highway. After that I slow down to the speed limit. I just try to have a little fun and I don't think that it is unsafe. Well it was dark out, state trooper going opposite direction on the divided highway. Never saw him, but I slowed to 68 mph (limit 65) and all the sudden I see flashing lights. So I pulled over, gave me a ticket for 84 in 65. Ticket was $236. I'm sure your's will be more since your in Cali. My insurance had just went down $200 every 6 months the week before. I was pretty upset. No idea what my insurance will go up to, have to wait and see. This was the first time I was pulled over.

Get a lawyer and don't sweat it. It's the best thing I ever did. I got out of both tickets.

I got arrested and taken to jail on Reckless driving (someone chasing me)

10 over speeing ticket.

Just pay lawyer fees and you may have to do traffic school and pay court costs, but it will stay off your insurance. The courts/police just want their money. They could care less about your insurance premiums. They're happy if they get their money.

Sort of the same thing happened to me, I was driving back with 3 other friends in separate cars at 3am and we went close to 100. Well at least i did. my friend were doing 100+. we did this for about half a mile then we slowed down to 75. Then about 5 mile after a CHP officer pulls in front of us all, turns on his lights and starts going left and right covering all three lanes. He pulls all four of us over. He wrote me down for 110 mph, Tint, and no front license plate. so anyways i extended the court appearance for about a month, but it happened to fall on a holiday so they extended it for another 2 weeks. So i appear in court and plead not guilty. So they set another date where i would have to fight the officer. So that was another month and a half. By that time i figured the cop had already forgotten what happened. So ya i ended up winning because he didnt show up. My ticket was estimated around 1000+ dollars, 30 days suspension of license, and all this was in california.

I checked the court's website on the eligibility to take traffic school and it said you can't take it if you were going more than 25mph. Since I got cited at going exactly 25 over, I think I should be able to take it.

I just got the letter in the mail and my bail is posted at $270. I thought it would be a lot more expensive so I'm a bit relieved. And it saids I'm am eligible for traffic school so now it won't go on my record and my insurance won't go up . The bad thing now is that I can't get a ticket for the next 18 months because then I won't be able to take traffic school and it WILL go on my record .

Hire an attorney and FIGHT IT!!! I always fight my tickets. It saves your traffic school option and gives you a chance to stick it to the money-making system disguised as "safety".

Wow that was stupid, hopefully you lose your license for a few months so you actually learn something from it.

You're probably going to have a $3-400 ticket + substantially higher insurance, 90 in a 65 at 18 isn't going to look to favorably upon you

I got caught by 2 biker cops. I was doing about 110-115mph on a 45mph blvd. Luckly I started braking before the cops radar'd me and they got me at 70-80mph. When they pulled me over they said they knew I was going faster, they saw me braking lol. The cops were cool though, they let me go with NO speeding ticket just two fix it tickets for change of address on my license and fix it ticket for no front plate. Although they were trying to scare me saying they could also give me fix it tickets for my aftermarket exhaust, cold air, etc..
Whats funny is I called my buddy i was cruising with earlier and told him to watch out for cops tonight, 10 minutes later I notice his car pulled over by the same two biker cops LOL. He got a fix it ticket for no front plate too lol..

nope. ticket was $270 and traffic school will have my record kept clean so no insurance hike whatsoever.
