Long trip on low profile tires

Hey guys, im planning a nice long trip into california all the way from vancouver , BC. The whole trip is going to be about 6000MILES, mostly highway, I5 and HWY101.
My questions is, would this much driving be ok with a 40 series tire, or would it be a better idea for me to throw back on the stock tires with 65 series tread.
I dont mind the rougher ride, but how safe are low profile tires on the hwy, some days will be 8 hours of driving. Also, i want to have some nice tires while driving up the 101 coast. The stock hybrid tires just dont cut it.

duration driving does not have any effect on low profile vs regular tires.

hitting a pothole on the other hand will damage your 40 series tires/rims mroe than you would with the OEM size tires.

Yah, thats what im afraid of, puncturing a sidewall, or bending a rim on a pot hole, does anyone know what the roads are like in most of western california?
I really dont want to run my dunlops from a civic hybrid, those tires are the worst tires i have ever driving on, very close to the bridgestone insignias that come on late model corollas

Having just recently completed a round about trip from SoCal to Seattle, I can tell you the you should be alright. There are sections of the 5 freeway when you get to central and southern cali that is extremely unforgiving due to the traffic deforming the surface. Did mention not to deviate to the side of the road and into the slotted groves designed to wake up sleepy truckers.

However, due to variations in personal tolerance to road noise and comfort, I would imagine 40 series tires would not be a comfortable ride due to the stiff side walls fora 6000 mile road trip.

When we did our trip, we rented a car with 60-75 series side wall, and the ride was like a Caddy. It absorbed every wrinkle, and bump on the road like a champ.

My advise would be to find some LX steelies and roll with that. Atleast if you bend a rim, you can always hammer it back into shape and be on your way.
