Gas Prices

The "my gas mileage sucks" thread inspired me to start this one. I wasn't sure in which section to do it so please move if necessary.

So the big talk these days in Canada is the rising gas prices. I'm assuming the same thing is happening in the US. I was wondering if someone might be able to explain this to me...

These days, it costs me 50 bucks to fill my car. I looked at my account balance diminishing and decided it's pissing me off.
My work is just about 5 minutes from the American border, so I've now started going to get my gas from the states. This saves me about 15 bucks a fill! Paying just 35 bucks for a whole tank of gas...it's like 2002 all over again

Now why the hell is that? Why are we getting so damn ripped off on gas up here???

I should also add that I get my cheap gas from Neche in North Dakota, as it's probable that prices might vary from town to town and state to state.

Also feel free to share your local gas prices, just for curiosity's sake.

Your country is more socialist in it's economic structure. I'm assuming you have higher provincial & National tax rates pertaining to gasoline! But you also get free healthcare. Which is why you come here for gas, and people close to canada go there for healthcare =)

San Diego:

Reg is $3.93 a gallon, and premium is $4.13
The station closest to me sells reg for 4.19 and premium for 4.47 now.

hmm, I suppose that makes sense. yeah free health care is pretty sweet.

Is regular in the states 89 octane? In Canada, regular is 87, 89 is like the "medium" grade (better than regular but not quite premium), but the gas station in North Dakota I go to only sells 89, which I find strange.

Regular in the States is typically 87 octane. Mid-grade is 89, and premium is 91+.

Gas tax in Canada:

Gasoline taxes across Canada - Petro-Canada
Look at BC and the 12-cent transit tax :S

$3.47 for 87 just because of the stupid credit card fees, otherwise $3.38 with cash. Apparently the place i filled up at yesterday advertises 0% ethanol added.

So many of these gas price threads... can a mod just take these websites and sticky it?
USA National Gas Temperature Map
Canada National Gas Temperature Map

Gas prices change nearly every day, what's the point of having a million threads with a million people posting how much they paid for it when it will change in 24 hours!!!!!?????? LOOK AT THE WEBSITE!!!1!!11oneBBQ

I fill up only at Hess stations. I don't even try to shop around because their gas is the cheapest. On top of that I pay with Hess credit card that offers 5% cash back. Look it up and save.
