Test Drive Friday! ++PICS++

Well, I went to test drive 2 cars on this past Friday that I have been looking at for about 6 months now. First up was the 2dr. Habi red Si. I'm really not going to go into detail on how it went seeing as how this is an 8th gen board . So, overall I liked the car, VTEC is fun, it was comfy as well. It was I guess what you would say peppy... LOL...no... thats a chick word... it was VTEC-o-licious if you will. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that a brand new car with 6 miles on it was having 3rd gear issues... I didn't take any pictures for obvious reasons...

However... my 2nd vehicle test drive...

My 2nd test drive was a 2008 Volkswagen GTI. I like the way it looks a lot. It's not a big fat ugly BORING looking hatch, so I don't think lol, but its still sporty looking! So, I went into the dealership and INSTANTLY greeted by about so it seemed 5 different salesmen... So, I started talking to the Director of Operations at the dealership. We got talking about the car and he offered me a test drive, so I said "most definately" . So, he drove to the gas station and was talking about the car some more, and got about $10 worth of gas, and said "alright jump over to driver and lets go for a spin! " So, I walked over to the driver side like a kid in a candy store running for the sour worms, and adjusted the 108359829352 way adjustable seat/wheel. As I was pulling out I noticed how light and precise the steering was on the car, but didn't say anything just kind of took in the observations. The clutch (it was manual NOT the DSG) was very light, and it didn't grab hard at all. The gas pedal is pretty sensitive, but I was sort of used to it already. So, as we started driving along he said "Drop to 3rd and go to about 6k. Tell me what you think." So, I did so, dropped to 3rd and went to 6k. The car pulled nicely. The turbo on there kicks in at something impressive like 1,200RPM and I noticed no fall-off in boost/power up to 6,000RPM.

After that fun pull I was mentally comparing how the GTI pulled against the Civic Si and I must say that it seems like the GTI pulls a noticable difference harder than the Civic Si does. So, we went back to the dealership and he said "go ahead and pull around in back. I want to show you the steering, and acceleration of this car." So in back we went. It was a good sized open parking lot for some simple testing of the car. He stopped, then accelerated (not squealing but hard enough to feel the car pull) and turbo response was INSTANT, the brakes are phenomonal (sp), and then he had me swerve back and forth which I had noticed earlier. He was talking to me about the electric steering motor thats in the car. :) .

Now, heres the ONLY THING I didn't like about the GTI. The damn PLAD SEATS!!! When and if I go with the GTI I can GUARENTEE YOU! that it'll have black leather seats like the one in the showroom w/sunroof.

Heres some pictures. I'm looking at getting Gunmetal Grey, or Black for exterior color choice.

Heres a car thats beautiful but a little OVER priced for what you get... but its sexy as hell!!! I LOVE THE BLUUUE!!! :) R32 = SeXXX

I thought you had an SI.

What can you get the car for? MSRP was 23xxx, but final tag was 28xxx.

I don't like how on a car as expensive as the GTI you still can get a black plastic bumper.

$28,000 they can keep that gti and I loL'd @ the r32 price, granted they are nice, but as far as power goes your comparing an N/A car to an F/I car... I bet my car pulls on that GTI

I looked into the GTI before I bought my FA5. Its nice..hate the plad seats. Do some reseach on reliablilty on both cars. Volkswagen has terrible ratings compared to the Honda. Check out Edmunds, consumerreports or something.

i like the way they look, but i wouldnt buy one because of reliability, and resale. Maybe lease one. thats what i would do. when you get tired of it falling apart it will be time to give it back.

I like the GTI a lot. I have a friend who let me drive his a couple of times. The four doors are not as good looking though.

When considering VW vs. Honda you should definitely look into resale values, reliability, and even consider MPG, etc. VW's are nice cars, but those Germans do some very odd things in the design and engineering of the cars. VW's are a lot more difficult to work on yourself if you plan on modding. Also, they are prone to more electrical problems and I have had several friends who drive VW's have their window supports freeze up and break (Jetta, Passat, and GTI in different model years).

In case you didn't know already, there is a TSB for the 3rd gear issue in Si's. If that's preventing you from buying one, it's no longer anything to worry about.

Did the 3rd gear on the Si pop up on you during the test drive??? Thats crazy. Def would turn me off...lol.

I agree on the seats ont eh GTI's. At the price that is on the sticker I would go look at a sporty sedan for the amount.

Yes sir, it popped out ON the test drive... I was aware of it going INTO the test drive so it wasn't a TOTAL SHOCKER to me thankfully, plus if theres a TSB for it; its really a toss up still between the 2...

Resale? They have bad resale? They were Rated #1 resale value in 2008 brotha. Search it up.

The 2 cars are not in competition. Go test the $22K VW, and let us know how it stacks up against the Si. Don't get me wrong, I like the GTI, I just didn't want to spend that much money.

i saw the comercial, but i want to see a 22k VW compred to an Si value in 4 years. The Si will be worth more because it will still run fine, the VW will be falling apart.

I'm sorry, but how can someone rate a cars resale value and publish it for 2008 cars when its april. Kelly blue book rated the si the highest in 2007. The GTI deffently has good resale, but thats where it stops. Most vw's are produced in mexico and like stated earlier, their reliability is crap and the main cause is electrical, tell you what I wouldnt spend more money for a car in the same class that is prone to electrical issues. Unfortunately you must not of, had a good presentation with the si because it also has electric steering as well. To each their own, get what you like and will be happy with 4 years from now, not for the first week.
