That lock thing happens to me when I am launching the car too much. It gets to the point that first gear wont go in. Sometimes it would it even pop it out if I launch the car again. It's not only our cars, my friend's car does the same and its an EVO. Sometimes it happens if for example you are stopped, and then put it in first gear without releasing the clutch. When that happens you want to put in neutral like the other dude said, release the clutch, and put the clutch again, then it should go in.

1st gear problem is huge for me, if not once a day then every other day. At stoplights if i take it out of gear then green comes i go to put it in first it wont go in. I have found 3 ways to get it to work though shouldnt have to do any of them.
One jam it in there if you push hard enough sometimes it goes in sometimes its the only way to get it in there. Two put it into second and then into first sometimes that works but not always, sometimes its the force of going from 2nd to first thats works just like One. Three rev the engine slightly and let it come back down. This ALWAYS works but when im the first person at a green light and this happens it can be 5 seconds before i get going it makes me look like a retard and if you rev your engine and shift into first 2 fast then you will grind it which i have done and it pisses me off because it looks like im beating up on my car when im just dealing with a problem that has came from the factory. I have the 3rd gear problems too, in the summer 3rd gear popping doesnt happen very often but during the winter 3rd gear becomes a problem so much that everytime i shift 3rd i think about it and hold my hand there to make sure it doesnt pop out while im driving. 3rd gear grinding is constant as it almost never goes in without a grind unless i shift as slow as possible which makes no sense. I want to take it to the dealer for not only the 3rd gear problem but the 1st i know my 1st and 3rd have way more wear and tear on them then they should at 16,000 miles but my car has already been in the dealership for other problems. Also should i remove the shortshifter when bringing it in to get it checked out? Would they try to blame anything on that. These problems were there since day one way before i got the shifter. I figured these were normal with manuals as this is the first one ive owned but totally believe now that this has nothing to do with normal or me. |

Dont have problems with it going in reverse unless you are moving but you really are supposed to come to a stop before going into reverse gear that said i have had this happen 3 times now when going into reverse, start up the car put it in reverse and as soon as i start i hear a click in the steering wheel and the wheel locks up and i get some type of power steering warning. manual says to restart it or problem persists the car needs to go to the shop because there could be bad problems with the powersteering.
I have had my car for a year but these power steering problems have happened all 3 times over the last 2 months. I hardly beat on my car, sometimes i think i should treat her more like a bitch then a baby cause when i baby her all she does is complain. When i ride the bitch she justs keep asking for more. |

I have this happen daily too a lot of cars do it. Literally all you need to do is rev the engine slightly (basically just tap the accelerator) while its still in neutral and the clutch is in and it will go right into gear. I have it happen with reverse too I'll usually try to put it into gear twice and if its still locking i just leave it in neutral with the clutch in and just give it a slight rev. It has worked 100% of the time. Try it and tell me if it works for all of you I'm interested to see because I have a friend with a mazda that does the same thing and he's the one that told me just to give the engine a slight rev.
